I heard somebody (Passan??) being interviewed say that he just can't vote for Javy for MVP with a .320-ish OBP, no matter how many other accomplishments he has.

To which I reflexively meatball reply: bullshit.

And then I look at the reality:
- Of the 18 hitters in the NL who got even 1 point in 2017 MVP voting, the OBP ranged from .352 (Cody Bellinger) to .454 (Joey Votto) and the OPS ranges from .854 (Corey Seager) to 1.107 (JD Martinez). Winner's bWAR was 7.6
- The last Cub SS to win the MVP was Ernie Banks, who slashed .313/.366/.614 in 1959
- The last Cub 2B to win the MVP was Ryne Sandberg, who slashed .314/.367/.520 in 1984

Javy was slashing .300/.330/.574 with a bWAR of 4.7 before tonight's game which probably gets him to a 6.7 WAR by season's end. If he can terrorize the league the rest of the year and finish at .315/.345/.600 and the Cubs win the division, I think he can win it.
