Really. Smart. People.The fact is that the age and the architecture of the Saddledome are starting to present a problem. Touring acts are skipping Calgary because the goofy Saddledome roof can't support whatever lighting rigs and stuff they need to set up. (For the uninitiated, the roof actually does look just like a saddle.) The problem is that the Flames are proposing some enormous megastructure that would house the Flames
and the CFL team, and they're asking the government to pay for it. Given that the CFL is basically Division II NCAA football with three downs, giant endzones, and one point for a touchback, I don't see why they're entitled to an expensive facility. If the government has to chip in on a new arena, fine, but not this monstrosity they're proposing.
