As a sometime fan of the Illini and Wildcats as well, I hope I can post here without annoying the anti-ND people.

Rees was okay in my opinion -- he had a couple of bad throws, but it's to be expected in that environment. It's claimed that he changed a LOT of run plays into pass. Unclear as to how well that transpired.

All ND fans know that any chance of a Nat'l Championship this year is totally gone. What's more disturbing by far is the national perception that ND can't compete at the highest level.

IMO, they DO have the athletes necessary to perform at the peak. Some of the most exciting playmakers are true freshmen, though. Do you play them against an extremely hostile record crowd at Michigan Stadium?

Brian Kelly more-or-less went conservative as far as not letting his young playmakers participate. And it cost him the UM game, as he sat and watched while Geo. Atkinson dropped balls.

Anyway, I hope the Illini and Wildcats continue their winning ways, and also congrats to NIU fans.

Brian Kelly is excellent at building a team, and in his defense it's not his fault that Everett Golson was suspended. But he's not going to go down as one of the great coaches. He needs to take accountability in the postgame press conferences.

There's no question that he's developed quality depth at ND. That was something Weis failed to do, and for example UConn knew that they could hang around and defeat Weis' starters when they got tired. Kelly needs to get fresh troops in there on defense especially so they can "rock you like a hurricane!"
