I remember one Cub's lineup where the pitcher had the most HR's of anybody that was in the lineup for that day!
Good Times!
Pitcher was Fergie. Happened sometime in the early '70's.
I think this was it:
http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes ... 9250.shtmlHoly fuck, that is incredible. Here are the seasonal HR totals for the starting lineup that day (Sep 21):
Gene Hiser (0)
Brock Davis (0)
Carmen Fanzone (2)Ernie Banks (3)
Paul Popovich (4)
Don Kessinger (2)
Frank Fernandez (4)
Bill North (0)
Fergie Jenkins (6)
And yet that team went 82-76, wow.
This is a story of true Cub fans. I go to a lot of Cub games with my friend Tom who is an absolute Cub diehard. He wouldn't leave the game until the final out no matter what. But he wasn't always that way. When he was a kid, a family friend who was several years older took him to a game. The Cubs were getting their asses kicked and there were two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Tom started to walk toward the exit and the guy he was with said, "WAIT! Carmen Fanzone is up!"
