kinda reminded me of classic Onion. like every article would always have the most perfect pic for the author. I hate how in the archives some of them got changed for some unknown reason.

I'm not denying that Howard has lost touch with his comedic roots on his show, but all three of those guys on the podcast are buddies with him, so I'm sure it was somewhat said in jest.

Jerry Seinfeld recently spoke out about how the rise of woke ideology and PC culture in media has ruined films and TV comedy.

In a recent episode of the New Yorker’s Radio Hour, the “Seinfeld” star blamed “the extreme left and PC crap” for the lack of quality TV comedy these days.

“It used to be, you would go home at the end of the day, most people would go ‘Oh, ‘Cheers’ is on. Oh, ‘MASH’ is on. Oh, ‘Mary Tyler Moore’ is on. ‘All in the Family’ is on,'” he said. “You just expected, ‘There’ll be some funny stuff we can watch on TV tonight.’ Well, guess what, where is it?”

“This is the result of the extreme left and PC crap and people worrying so much about offending other people. Now, they’re going to see stand-up comics, because we are not policed by anyone. The audience polices us. We know when we’re off track, we know instantly and adjust to it. But when you write a script and it goes into four or five different hands, committees, groups, there goes your comedy.”

I think he undercuts his comment a little by citing shows where the last one finished in 1993 and most of them were well before that. I get that he didn't want to cite Seinfeld but find other more recent options unless the idea is that "woke culture" started in 1994. At least throw out something like 30 Rock or The Office.

Also, most of the good comedy just moved to cable but it has been a pretty horrible run. Like, who actually likes Abbott Elementary? It seems like a show you want everyone to know you like because it makes you a good person to watch a show that portrays a school in a positive light where everyone is happy and funny but none of the scenes are actually funny or interesting. They can't even make an amusing commercial.

Sitcoms are at a low ebb right now. Woke culture probably does have something to do with it, but I think that the format doesn't particularly lend itself to streaming (if you're going to seek out programming, you want it to last longer than 30 minutes, in most cases) and the format (like the late night talk show format) is just really tired.

Lots of students at Duke Uni walked out of Jerry's commencement speech yesterday (was it yesterday? I get the days mixed up all the way out here on the rim).
They walked out not because Jerry used to 'date' high school girls but because he is a Jew.
