Post subject:  Army/Navy WHAT IF.....

What if Notre Dame finished in the #2 spot by .001 in the BCS standings (or even if NIU finished in the #16 spot by only .001) - both of those teams played Army and Navy this year - wouldn't a loss by either Army or Navy affect the strength of schedule enough to mess up the standings of the BCS?

How do they play this game after the end of the BCS regular season?

It is always the last game of the regular season.

The BCS commissioners agreed a few years ago to eliminate the game from the BCS formula.

"It just wasn't feasible to delay the selections by a week. Fans need time to make their travel arrangements. Bowls need as much time to promote their games. And, it's not only a matter for the BCS bowls but several of the non-BCS bowls wait 'til after the BCS pairings are announced."

The hell does that have to do with what I'm talking about?

Huh. I did not know that. That's seems really weird to me.

What would happen if both of these teams were the only two undefeated schools remaining, and the winner would decide who could go on to make the National Title game? How can this game not count towards BCS?

That is the fault of Army and Navy though. They asked for special circumstances to finish their season one week after everyone else. They have to deal with those consequences. They would be hurt significantly by not having that win factor in.

Or be helped by being the only two undefeateds and not have to lose ground due to a loss.

Not gonna happen, but still.....

If you are the only two undefeated teams though, you likely wouldn't be jumped with a loss to the #1 team in the country. It's like when Alabama lost. They didn't get jumped by any team with a loss. They were only jumped by the current undefeated teams.

If Navy and Army were able to get to #1 and #2, even with one less game played, and a strength of schedule that was still great without factoring in the #1 ranked opponent, they'd likely both be locked in to the title game.
