I remember Strange winning back in 1988 but I don't remember anything about the course so really interested in watching this. I love the classic courses and how they hold up against the world's best. It's a relatively short course for a major these days but the rough should be long and the greens are quite small. I believe I read only Pebble Beach's are smaller. Just hoping for some good storylines and some big names up there for the weekend. I'm getting tired of all the LIV commentary, let's start focusing on the toughest tournament in golf.

Starting today.... I really hope they don't tear this place apart with it only being 7200 yards. I don't think it will be so hard that E will win but I would like to try to keep them under double digit under par scoring.

I hope a LIV player wins particularly Phil. My only reason for this is I had to listen to Mully and Haugh moan and groan all morning about that tour and the horrible golfers kissing up to the Saudis.

LIV or not, anybody winning the career Grand Slam would be an awesome story. Its one of the most exclusive clubs in all of sports.

Sounds like TV coverage on USA Network. I'll try to catch 20 minutes at lunch.

Rooting for a LIV player as well. Trying to watch on the USGA website while I work, but memory keeps crashing the feed. Golf course looks fantastic. I'd love to go out there with a hybrid, 8 iron, Sand wedge, putter and just bunt the ball around enjoying the day. Forget scoring.

Liv winner would be objectively hilarious. I’d rather it be like Na, Schwartzel or somebody else nobody cares about.

If you're rooting for a LIV guy, Phil, Reed, or DJ is probably your best bet.

I’ve never liked Phil so it’s hard for me to root for him. I wouldn’t mind DJ. Reed would be hilarious. Politer may have the highest possible comedic potential but I suppose the point is he (and most Liv players) go into this with very little hope of competing.

Schwartzel and Poulter didn't qualify for this year's open.

That’ll make it hard for them to win I suppose.

18 of 78 under par in the morning wave, sounds like this is possibly the easiest day of the week.

Saw a little of the coverage and seems like the course will hold up pretty well. The wind kicked up some during the afternoon and I think there were fewer low rounds. Seems like there are a lot of birdie opportunities out there but you could double bogey at any time if you get into the rough. I thought it was a good leaderboard and most of the big names didn't shoot themselves out the first day.

Right. You hit the fairway, and you can get a bird. You miss the fairway and par becomes an incredible save with a bogey not being too terrible sometimes. Unless somebody goes nuts this weekend, -5 or so will be the winning score methinks.

Looking forward to it. I’d be surprised is anyone goes more than -3 all day.

Very likely that 68 is the best score today.

I don't think it's a coincidence that he really started to take off once he got Ted Scott on his bag.

Same with Justin Thomas and Bones

What happened? When I left for church it seemed he was on cruise control.
