Really looking forward to this one, mostly because I know very little about the course and layout. I've heard there are a couple short par 4's which I think is a must in championship play, and also at least one short par 3. Probably my favorite tournament mostly due to extremely difficult conditions.

So is this a non-Saudi owned event? Or do the Saudis own it all now no matter when and where it's played

I'm really looking forward to seeing that course as well.

I saw the 11th is a Par 3 that can play 290.

Yikes, that is pretty extreme. There are a handful over 200 I play at my courses but one is 235 uphill regularly and I hate that hole. They can push it back another 40 if they use the way back tees.

That is stupid for normal weekend golf play and we wonder why it takes 5 plus hours to play.

Well I agree it is pretty stupid of me to play the back tees. I think most people likely play one box too far back which creates some long rounds for the weekend warriors.

I am not just saying you, I am saying the course. The other thing that I would eliminate a lot of, is bunkers. They are very costly to maintain, they are never in good shape and again slow down play for the normal player.

My course has taken a number of bunkers out the last few years, couldn't agree more with them not being needed in many cases or letting them grow back with some longer grass. They also do a great job limbing up trees and knocking down tall native areas in the spring, but can't keep up with it during the season and becomes hard to find the ball.

Probably more info than MANY want to read through but a short breakdown of each hole this week by one of the top amateurs in the game.

The last three holes measure over 1,500 yards. All par 4's. Good luck.

I’m one of the people who enjoy impossible course conditions at the US Open. Let those assholes in the UK give their tournament to a guy who shoots 50 under…I want to see people struggling to stay around par.

In that spirit, this is ok but could be a little more challenging:

The proper second place score for the US Open is either E or +1.

I've seen some videos where you can get a halfway decent lie in the rough but you can also get unlucky. Should even out for most. From what I have been reading and seeing in interviews, the deep grass around the bunkers is where you want to avoid. Much better to be in the sand than trying to hit a delicate shot in the really gnarly stuff.

I should be able to catch a decent chunk of coverage the next 4 days and with it being on the west coast that tacks on some additional coverage I can see the next two days. Enjoy all....
Don't really have a pick but hard not to lean towards Koepka again. He is an animal when its tough out there. Just want an exciting finish and a score under -5.

Fowler definitely out of the gates well. Definitely would be easy to root for him. I have been rooting for him because he plays the exact same shafts in his irons as I do. :eye:

agree 100%. I won't watch the US Open if there's more than 3 people under par.

If Fowler birdies his last hole today (#9), he ties the course record with a 61.

Move over Johnny Miller. I'm sure he'll be a douche about it and say his was a Par 71 course on a Sunday.

Just turned it on to see Fowler tap in on the last hole. I’m surprised guys are going that low but still would like to keep the scores down. The golf gods rarely give but they can take away. No lead is safe that is for sure.

This course is being eaten alive - it was supposed to be the other way around.

Weather forecast so far does not favor the course. -18 or lower could be the winning score.

LACC is supposed to host in 2039; wonder how much things will change by then?
