I am sure some of you have heard the news..... announcement could happen at any time.

https://www.golfdigest.com/story/usga-r ... ember-2023

Guess I'm waiting for a few more details on this. I think it is silly to roll the ball back for amateurs who are just playing on the weekends, but we will see what happens. Definitely would say that the pros, and high level amateur events could have their own golf balls available to players by the manufacturers.

So the milk crate full of golf balls in my garage, which I have accumulated through the years mostly while looking for my errant shots, would all become illegal?

I'm going to be like Elaine in Seinfeld. I'm buying a 1,000 pack of balls in 2028 and living the rest of my life with them.

If this all happens I don't believe it would be finalized and in effect for a few years so you have some time.

Leave the golf balls alone and have the pros play with old timey clubs. Win-win.

What I heard yesterday was that the chances won't affect anyone who can't consistently and accurately hit the ball at 115mph or higher. So pretty much anybody playing to a 10 or higher won't see any impact.

Whoever said tame back the clubs is right. Pro balls too why not. Golfers already have outplayed most courses and the tee boxes when you see them in person so far back are ridiculous.

The USGA and the R&A, golf's governing bodies, have formally announced a plan to roll back the distance that golf balls now travel, starting in 2028. The "rollback" decision is the result of years of analysis and study, and, according to the two authorities, is designed to combat gains in distances that threaten the sport's long-term viability.

"The decision aims to reduce the impact increased hitting distances have on golf’s long-term sustainability while minimizing the impact on the recreational game," the USGA said in a statement.

Pros will have to use conforming balls beginning in January 2028, while amateurs will have until 2030 to begin using the newly manufactured, conforming balls.

They were saying 3-5 yards for an average amateur player
