What was the "unpleasant or hostile situation" created by Julie seeing vile things on her phone? Unpleasant, sure, but is it a "situation" if you can just put your phone down and the "harassment" is abated, or block the guy and never see him tweet something at you again? Uninvited? Hardly, she created a public account, and has numerous times refused to protect her tweets, twitter's most viable way of dealing with trolls.

There's absolutely zero credibility to anything even remotely threatening said by that asshole, so any feeling of hostility or fear is unreasonable and irrational.

Some guy saying he's going to re-rape Julie is abhorrent and a childish way to deal with a weird fascination with defending Kobe Bryant, but it's not a "threat" in any reasonable interpretation of the term.

It is pretty simple. If he had called her cell phone and said those things we'd all think it is harassment. If your wife or girlfriend got a call that was saying that you'd be thinking she was being harassed.

A public twitter account is indexed and searchable, its tweets able to be seen, and intended to be seen, by anyone with an internet connection.

If my wife or girlfriend was publishing her phone number on the internet regularly for the express purpose of having people interact with her via the telephone, I would say they have quite the weaker position of outrage at having people say things they don't like on the phone.

Fine. Let's say someone says that to her in a public park? Is it harassment?

That guy needs to be banned. We can all criticize Julie for plenty of stuff related to on air performance or the some of the silly stuff she tweets. But that guy went way over the line. To make it worse, he continued it with several tweets and even referenced Chicago.

Let's not allow our dislike of her opinions blind us from people being way out of line.

And to equate what goes around here (where we sorta know one another and get the jokes) to that type of stuff on Twitter is pretty off base.

I'm confused. Did the dude threaten to rape her? If so, it's wrong and should be shouted down by everyone. There is really no context needed. The method of communication is irrelevant.

We're not discussing whether the guy is a jerk-off. That isn't in question. We're discussing whether it's harassment, a traumatic event, a real threat.
