This thread is getting too basketbally. I'd like to address the conclusion that danny drew from the hockey stat that says teams that hit less score more. As the guy who called in pointed out before he got laughed at for his trouble by Dumb Terry, it isn't some great revelation that the team that has the puck more is probably going to score more. It seemed that danny was drawing the idiotic conclusion that if teams simply stopped checking their scoring would increase. That's why statistics are so dangerous in the hands of amateurs.

Yea, if a caller called in with that I doubt Dan would have given him 15 seconds on the air before cutting him off.

He took a stat which is correlative, and tried to subtlety spin it as causal while talking down callers who accused him of doing so. Shockingly, if a team doesn't have the puck, they are going to have to check to try to get it back.

Yeah, he seemed to eventually back away from his original stance because he isn't a moron. Of course, Dumb Terry still couldn't grasp why the statistic didn't really tell you anything and he kept sputtering about how the game is different than anyone thought.
