I just wondered if you knew either of their names. Taking of temperature of their "stardom" if you will.

According to them, the WNBA should capitalize on the new found interest and the Sky should be in prime position with the young stars they have.

The "stars" the Sky drafted - one no one knows anything about and the other is a "star" because of her rivalry with Caitlin Clark.

idk, Larry said she's part of the core of Chicago superstars along with Bedard and Caleb

Yeah, I heard that. Another really horrible thought.

Leila is probably hosting this show as much as Dan and Lawrence since she's there each Wednesday and is their backups. Even Dan is taking regular time off now and Laurence is probably out at least 30-40 days a year.

There's about 250 work days (minus some holidays). She's working at least once a week - that's about 50 days. Add in another 35 for Laurence, 25 for Dan, plus the days where all 3 appear, which is happening more frequently, but say it's 10x a year.

I'm putting the amount of shows she's hosting at about 110-120 days a year.

She does make the show smarter according to Laurence.

So it is like Magic/Bird NBA on CBS.

The way they keep hyping up the interest, we seem to be on the verge of a major breakthrough.

Like soccer 20 years ago? The world's game?

Do they know Caitlin Clark doesn't play for the Sky? She's the interest in the league. There is no interest in the WNBA generally.

am I the only one to notice that the thrust of their marketing is to make this year's draft class conventionally sexy as defined by the male patriarchy.

It's like the shift in the LPGA from a few decades ago when it was dominated by "female high school gym teacher" types. WNBA marketing recognized it had a demographic problem and has either overtly or covertly run from its past character.

but, in doing so, they are just perpetuating

I think that's the case with Angel Reese, but Caitlin Clark is allowed to just be good at basketball and the fact that she's not a wildebeest is just sort of a side benefit.

Sky drafted a better player higher in the draft but you wouldn't know she existed. She's given the Marla Hooch treatment from A League Of Their Own

I am not sure what was more funny to me this morning. When they had Florio on they tried to get him to bite on the KC kicker controversy that up until then I did not hear of. Anyway, Bernsie demands to know why he can talk about Ctaholic and other right wing stuff while the left voices get silenced. If that wasn't funny enough trying to get Florio to follow you down that line was. He was stammering on how to get away fast.

Real slow
And take off your Reeboks
I'll take off your Reeboks
Baby, take off your jersey
Yes, yes, yes
You can leave your compression sleeve on

Just popping in to say that I didn't come up with "WNBA Observer Randy Newman," but I wish I had and I can understand why someone would think I did.

I'll let someone else do the digging but my favorite Rick Rude promo is one he did in WCW where Schiavone goes to interview Rude at his house and Rude says something like "you're always welcome to visit as long as you call ahead to let me know." I don't remember anything else from it, just our favorite gyrating super-villain defaulting back to a friendly but boundary-setting Minnesotan.

EDIT: ah what the hell I had to watch it again https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRR0uDlEejk

Yeah, WCW before Hogan is weird to look back on because for all the winners-write-the-history propaganda about how WCW didn't know what they had in Steve Austin and Mick Foley, the WWF never saw what they should have in Rick Rude, and would completely squander Ron Simmons and Vader. Someone should be beaten with a pool noodle for the silver-spray-painted-foam-helmeted "Faarooq Asad." But then again early '90s WCW was a much clearer junior partner, too.

Ron Simmons did pretty well in WWF. He never has to work another day in his life because of APA and Damn!

The promo for today's show highlights the fact that Nick Friedell and Jason Lieser will be Dan and Larry's guests.

Is this supposed to be an incentive to listen?

Friedell appears to be a chain-smoking alcoholic who consistently sounds like he's just waking up no matter what time of day he happens to be on the radio. His next interesting thought will be his first.

Lieser is a lightweight even among a weak cohort of Bears beat reporters and has never broken a story or offered an insightful observation about the team. Apparently he is a regular on B/H only because he is personal friends with Larry.

This is the very definition of PTFB radio.

holmes and bernstein are the dream team cochran and kardashian for ian happ.

bernstein: "if happ doesn't play today, the cubs will need to explain why"

loho: "happ is such a cerebral player"

happ is so cerebral that he threw a 6 y/o temper tantrum when he was sent down to iowa after 2019 spring training. this, after striking out 167 times in 367 ABs in 2018 and a 2019 spring training of 14 strike outs in 52 ABs.

is all that only because he does a 15 minute show with them on tuesdays?

he's due and the cubs are playing the pirates. he can't hit any worse.

Hoerner is exactly the kind of white, grindy, overrated player Bernstein would hate on any other team.
