So I’m donating platelets this morning, and I read something about an east coast race course catching grief about not canceling their races today because of high heat and humidity. So I googled Arlington Park and while I didn’t see anything about AP canceling their card today for the same reason, I came across a Jim O’Donnell column about AP. In his notes section, I saw this:

“That chatter about Mike Mulligan moving to afternoons at WSCR-AM (670) actually makes sense. Few in Chicago sports media have as broad a foundation as the gabby Irishman … “

https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20190717/odonnell-please-hold-all-tickets-on-the-future-of-arlington-park

I tried finding more info online but didn’t see anything.

Smoke? Fire? The ramblings of a lunatic (O’Donnell not me- ok, both of us)?

Mully is the worst host in Chicago sports radio history.

I heard Laurence hosting with Haugh this week.

Parkins/Bernstein and Mully/ McNeil?

Mulli needs to be off the station completely. He is the worst interviewer and talker I’ve ever heard in a professional format. And in Chicago, no less.

Uh, uh, uh, arse, uh, uh, uh Dumb joke, uh, uh, uh, uh,

+1 - Agreed, I like Mully. One of the last remaining "Neighborhood Guys" left on 670.

I thought he and Hanley were a very solid team. What ever happened to Brian?

Something might be happening with the the lineup? I suspect Spiegs is coming back in a larger role during the week. Possibly Keeping Hit & Run on Sunday but bowing out of Saturday's Inside the Clubhouse with Bruce Levine?

I have noticed over the past couple of weeks Haugh has been more interruptive and aggressive when disagreeing and debating with Mully. Mike genuinely seemed to be agitated a couple of times.

Also, David Haugh sounded overly courteous, quiet and accommodating to Laurence Holmes when they hosted together last week.

Mac's wife is correct - this sports stuff really is soap opera for men.

Haugh and aggressive don’t compute. You’re exaggerating.

Interrupting? Sure. But Mulli and Hanley talked over one another for the large majority of some entire segments.

Agreed. I am just about at the point where I won't listen to that show at all. This Bernstein that is with McKnight is the most annoying version of him I've heard at the Score. Their constant "look how smart I am" discussions are nauseating. The only show I listen to is Mac/Parkins and anything with Spiegel. I find myself listening to less and less of the Score and more podcasts.

McKnightmare has proven his forte(smart) is so overblown that it comes very close to a lie. He had become not credible early in this narrative that he is smart. Therefore, he is worthless and has no point in being there. Keeping up the narrative is basically lying to your audience. The weird ass inflections are just icing on the cake.

This is also a disservice to Bernstein. Like him or hate him, he is talented at his craft.

I think a Mully/Bernstein combo could work.

Mully would help restore Bernstein's sense of humor, and Bernstein might be able to curb Mully's aimless rambling.

Sweet Lou Canellis in for Mully this morning. I like Lou.

However, it appears that Mike has been off a lot lately?

Beardown... where are you on this? We need answers.

Is something afoot in Scoreland? Another lineup shake up?

I would be definitely give it a listen. I think a Bernstein/Spiegel pairing would work as well. Both of them have had their ego lowered over the last year so they should play nice together.

Mully is probably burning his vacation before his contract year ends. LoHo does that every year as well right after the Christmas holidays.

Mac had an oblique FB post about going fishing and soon being able to fish more often. Made me wonder if he expects some sort of change, or maybe the musky lodge is going to drop in an ISDN line so he can just spend the entire summer up at lodge.

Another lineup change is in the works? I'm guessing Mully's deal is up and they move him to another show. Bouncing McKnight would benefit the station — he just isn't good, especially for this market.

Haugh and Co. 6-9
Mully and Bernstein 9-noon
Spiegel and Holmes noon-3
McNeil and Parkins 3-7

Why would they fuck up their top rated show?

Doesn't matter to DeCastro. Getting rid of Hanley and bringing in Haugh and still staying at #1 just reinforces his decisions in his mind. Now we will see what he does with McKnight.

I always thought Bernstein and Hanley would have been really good. This is probably the next best thing. Mully may even pull a Baffone and try to choke Bernstein out. Wonder what that would do for ratings.

Haugh is awful, and his tweets are just as bad. THE Score lineup sucks, lucky for them, ESPN is really bad.

Agreed. Most of us on this forum could come up with a better lineup given their talent.

I agree, that could be a good pairing. Years ago (15 years or so?) Mulligan filled in for Boers on B&B for several days and it was good radio. That was before Mullligan was a regular host on the station and he sounded different than he does now. He was more articulate and I don't recall his over-the-top laughter after almost anything someone said that was even mildly amusing.

It’s the time slot that’s top rated, not the show.

I don’t see what value Mulli brings. He’s fucking terrible.

In my opinion, the station would benefit from new voices, not retreads of the last 10-20 years. I understand getting to radical, like bringing in 3 new hosts, would probably do more harm than good, but re-arranging the deck chairs accomplishes very little.

Hearing Parkins do the national show on Sunday night, I think he's perfectly suited for that.

Mulli cannot speak coherently. Mulli has a problem interrupting people. While Mullli / Bernstein would be better than McDoink, it would still be bad radio.

Significantly worse.

Bernstein solo for 3 hours with a rotating cast of guest hosts and/or a guest heavy show ala Dan Patrick would be the best way to utilize him at this point in his career

The supposed chatter is about Mulligan moving to afternoons not partnering with Bernstein at a worse time slot. If there is a change it's Cubs related. They seem to be pulling all the strings there now.

Mully and Bernstein would be competing to see who could ask guests the longer questions.

12-2 Loho

2-6 Parkins/Bernsie
