He was anyway. This is more about Hoerner being hurt multiple times, and the Cubs being willing to put Madrigal at leadoff.

This was the least likely trade I would have considered.

I liked Madrigal and the team was better with him.

I don't think he works as well with a rebuild as he is a complementary player.

I never thought he lived up to what he was sold as on draft day. His baseball IQ was shockingly low and cost them critical games last year. His defense was supposed to be immediately Gold Glove caliber and it was not.

Still, he hit for a remarkably high average from the moment he joined MLB. He's a great player to have while he is still cheap. He will be a guy you don't want to pay in free agency.

Sox sold low on Heuer. He has closer ability. He was off this year but I thought he was great last year.

Lucky to get anything for Kimbrel this year. If he doesn't turn it around this year we get nada.

Happy with the return. No one wanted Kimbrel the last two seasons. Whitesox fans were laughing in our face.

That's right. Crochet has lost speed on his pitches and maybe not panning out to the ace he was projected to be. I wouldve taken Nicky too because the Cubs need guys who can make contact. Need to change the culture of home run or nothing.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. You got your 2 run lead, 2 inning save guy, and you got a guy who's been to the mountain for the 1 inning, 1 run lead.

None of us really liked Madrigal as a baseball player. We liked him because when he swung, he didn't miss. And that shit's fun in this day and age.

This is really the unCubbiest of trades

It didn't provide prospects for all you slapdicks to hang your hopes and dreams upon. You got two, legit, cost controlled MLB players for the next five years. Neither is a centerpiece but they give you the ability to buy other known quantities in FA.
