What? Are Chicago sports fans the only ones that think this level of nonsense?

Yan Gomes makes sense. They went through 8 catchers last year, Contreras caught about 20 games too many, and Gomes was in Cleveland with the current Cubs GM. Amaya is out for the year with surgery, and at this point he's likely a lost cause.

I think Contreras will catch 60% of the time and DH 20%, unless they get a truly stupid good offer for him. If he hasn't signed an extension by June, then they will deal him.

Fuck it, trade Willy and Hendricks and start over.

Trade Contreras, fine. Hendricks seems like a guy that can pitch a while longer. He's really fun to watch every fifth day as well. If they get Stroman, that changes things too. They'd make a great pair at the top of the rotation.

If the Cubs sign Stroman as their "ace," I may have to switch fandom to the Cardinals. He's the epitome of average.

What would you prefer they do now?

He is 61-60 for his career. 13-9 was his best season. Does not sound like a #2 starter to me

Won/Loss 61-60
WHIP 1.266
K/9 7.5

Will fit right in with the rest of the Cubs starters who can't break a pane of glass.

If he's their #4, then it's fine. If they give him Lester's contract (6 x $25m) and make him #1 or #2, it's sickening.

What difference does it make what “number” he is? This team desperately needs starting pitching to be competitive. Sure, an ace falling in their laps would be great but they need guys up and down the rotation. He’s not a superstar but he’s ok. They are better with him than without.

He’s a career .500 pitcher on better teams than the Cubs . He’s really not improving the team ( not that they’re going to be any fucking good anyway )

Maybe, but he’s probably among the best remaining options left out there, is coming off a decent year, is a ground ball pitcher that generally keeps the ball in the park, and is a decent signing for an at-best middle-of-the-pack and more likely a bottom-feeding team. Really, what is everyone expecting? That scherzer was coming to the Cubs? Stroman is what is on the menu for a team in transition. And if the DIDNT sign him everyone would be up at arms that they were asleep at the switch if he pans out.

I like this. Can't hurt and you could end up getting a great return in July.

The lockout starts tonight. I will be more interested once the new rules are in place. The Cubs will suck no matter what in 2022. The one big advantage they have is not being tied up with payroll. They have very few proven assets. We have to see if anyone besides Contreras and Hendricks have major league value.

I know the Sux would have killed to get Stroman. Instead they will add nothing to a rotation that got railroaded in the postseason
