You don't get it. I'm glad the Cubs have Quintana and you'll be motherfucking him soon enough. If you think it's "luck", that's fine. I like my starters to be lucky or at least have average luck.

There's only one pitcher on the Cubs who gets motherfucked and it's Lackey. If a Cubs starter gives up 2 runs and loses, that's on the offense. It's idiotic to expect your starters to have go out every start and give up zero or one run and if he doesn't "why didn't you pitch better".

If the opposing pitcher can do it vs. the POWERHOUSE Cubs, why can't Quintana do it against a lesser team? And I don't expect anyone to give up zero or one run every game. What I do expect is that a guy you call a good pitcher should give up less than the guys he is facing- the majority of whom you would consider less than good- most of the time.

Here are the facts of last night's game:

2 starting pitchers: one THE GREAT Quintana, one a guy making his eighth career start

Quintana "supported" by the CUB JUGGERNAUT, the eight start guy "supported" by the mediocre Brewers (Though the Brewers have outscored the Cubs to this point, I'm gonna take a wild guess that no Cub fan is going to admit that Milwaukee has a better lineup.)

I was more disappointed with the cubs squandering opportunities at the plate than i was with quintana's pitching. JORR and i talked about this over beers last night and i get what he's saying.

i think the cubs just had a drought at the plate last night. it happens. don't let it happen today too.

Quintana didn't pitch well last night either . He was in trouble most of the night.

If he goes out, gives up 2 and loses 2-1 that's a good start.

It's pretty easy to compartmentalize a pitchers performance from the offensive performance of his team vs the opposing pitcher. Cub fans are smart enough to do that. Sux fans were not.

Here is my problem debating Quintana. I think everyone agrees he is one the better pitchers in baseball at preventing your team from scoring runs. His problems, if there is one is converting them to wins.

So what happens when he does give up a run or two (at a lower than league average rate) is this....

Run given up 0-0 - he prevents runs but he always gives up the lead.
Run while trailing 1-0 he just can't keep you in the. Me.
Run while winning 1-0 he can't hold a lead.

The common bond is he gave up a run at lower than league average rate.... I'm confident in his pitching going forward with a team that should get him 4 runs a game. I'll take the occasional out dueled and I'm co Disney it will happen less than 50% of the time going forward.

Praising the losing pitcher is so Cub.

If you score the first run you win like 2/3 of the time. Maybe don't give up the first run and it won't matter if you give up 1 or 5.

As IMU pointed out (a point you didn't respond to, curiously), the Brewers are ahead of the Cubs in nearly every offensive statistical category, save for OBP. So how exactly are they "an inferior offense"?

I'm absolutely not basing it on one game as much as you might like that to be the case. The man has 175 big league starts. And this isn't a Cubs-Sox thing either. My feelings about him were no different when he was plying his trade eight miles south. I'm pretty sure there's a clear record of that so there's no need to try to turn it into some "JORR is anti-Cub" nonsense.

Finally, just for the record, are you acknowledging that the Brewer offense is superior to the Cub offense?
