Thanks to the help of message board members beginning in 2014, we—the students and professors of the Know Rivalry Project—began answering this question and others related to rivalry in the MLB. Please help us update our results to ensure that the Chicago Cubs are included by taking 9 minutes to complete our newest survey:

We want to start the rivalry discussion here. Additionally, fan data helps us to study rivalries that exist between teams, players and fans.

Our previous results have been featured in numerous sports media outlets, as well as the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. How did you come up with 9 minutes?

It's oddly specific.

What if I want to take more time? Can I do that?

What if I complete it too quickly? Will you feel I haven't taken sufficient time to reflect and disqualify my entry?

What if I never click that link because God knows what kind of pandemic it might unleash on my computer?

Who are Northern Kentucky's rivals? Southern Kentucky? Western? Eastern?

Is Kentucky potentially looking to leave the Union? And trying to identify potential enemies? Wouldn't that be a better thesis? I mean, personally, for me, which is what personally means, for me, I would find that far more fascinating. The potential for Kentucky to exist as its own sovereign state being completely surrounded by another like the Kingdom of Lesotho is far more interesting.

But, whatever. Cardinals.
