Not really. baseball, and especially stealing bases/diving/sliding, wasn't meant to work with instant replay.

Arizona radio was brutally honest about the disappointment of the Cubs not going to more world series'. Said Heyward isn't the player he once was. If they meant below average to now league worst they're right.

Good to see Melancon finally back on his feet.

Trading him to the Giants derailed his career. It's hard for pitchers to adjust midseason and adjust to a new team. People treat it like a video game, where if u plug him in on any team, he will do the same thing he did with the team he was with for years. Then he gets injured and it's a big fuckin mess.

He got derailed, but it looks like he picked up the pieces slowly, and is back to being consistent. Hopefully he can hang around for a while with the same team.

Gary’s kid is a constant reminder of what a meathead dumbass his dad was. And he didn’t seem like it, or at least didn’t look like it at the time. But they mostly all are. And that’s a good reminder.

Boog seemed shocked & speechless when in the 9th JD dropped his guard, went off script and said "in modern day baseball the pitching coach comes out every pinch hitter".

Another solid AB for Morel. He has really impressed me with his ability to work a count, read/react and wait for something he can put some wood on. He is an outside the top 10 prospect and an emergency call up but I have no problem keeping him around. Vargas is horseshit, Ortega is not a big leaguer and everyone knows my and most of the world's opinion on Heyward.

Hendricks is having one of those days. He is so good when he can locate everything the way he wants to but when he can't it is cock shot after cock shot.

I do like how Ross(/Hoyer) has immediately shoved Morel into action. Play him every day until he proves he needs to be sent down with specific hitting to work on at Iowa, rotate him between 3B/2B/CF. You have him through 2024 without arbitration.

Boog says "players didn't argue pitches that were an inch and a half outside 25 years ago. Players know the strike zone better today."

JD, "I think we did".

Boog, "like the arguing we just saw?"

the guy is a fucking catcher. it's the 7th inning. if he doesn't know what the ump has been calling strikes and balls all day he's a fucking dolt then.

embarrassing.

He gave 6 inches on the inside and the outside in the same AB and has been giving 6 down low most of the game. I'm good with Wily telling him to clean his shit up already.

That is the thing...he was calling it low all game and not so much off the edges like in that ab.

I can’t imagine giving the cubs as currently constructed even 2 innings of my time.

2-3 years away from legitimately contending for a division right?

Is any player on the team gonna be here the next time they win a playoff game?

Could ownership possibly go another off season without making a legitimate free agent splash?

I don’t think they should have given KB or Baez the money and years they got elsewhere but why not re-sign Contreras? Could he possibly be asking for an extension that is truly unreasonable? So the play is just to flip him at the deadline for more lottery tickets?

More like 5-7

Maybe Morel??

Yes that's the plan for the next 3 -4 years.

Ricketts gone cheap. He is the new Jerry.

5-7? I don’t see that.

3-4 years without a top tier free agent? I don’t see that either.

If the latter is the case then fuck this team for the rest of the decade

Wind blowing out to CF 25mph puts into proper perspective any offensive accomplishments today. Team is 8 games below .500 nearing the end of the seasons 1st quarter. That's about a 65 win team. Managers usually get fired when rebuild teams get competitive. Ross under contract through '24 option in '25. He doesn't appear to be an asset to opponents like crazy Joe was.

I'm looking at the roster and thinking maybe Keegan Thompson and Suzuki, in 2024. I like Morel, but it's very early to say.
The MLB club is almost completely bereft of star talent (I assume Contreras will be dealt.)

I'd add Steele, I think he's going to end up being a solid 3rd starter I'm the long run.

Morel realistically only has a 3 season shelf life as a Cub, he's David Bote who can play a decent CF as the short side of a platoon, which when combined with having options might make him a reasonable 26th man until he is arb-eligible. Or it makes him Trayce Thompson.

Effross will be a bullpen piece unless his arm breaks.
