Good guy. Wish him well.

Watching him play his early career in COL, was glad when the Cubs got him after Houston stint. Him surprising the team in Spring Training after the Orioles rumors and that lead off HR in Game 7 will always be good memories.

One day in 2017 I had my company seats to a cubs/cardinals game. We were front row, right field line, maybe less than halfway from first to the pole. Fowler comes running out to warm up and I yelled out Hey Dex! DEX! He looked over and gave me that look like he knows what half drunk white boys say to cardinal outfielders at Wrigley, but I yelled "Come back Dex we love ya! Gonna miss you in Chicago!" And he stopped, turned towards us and did a little bow kind of thing and hollerd back "thanks!".
Good guy. Hit world series home runs.

Cardinals GM John Mozeliak 2018 on Dexter Fowler.

“I’ve had a lot of people come up to me and question his effort and his energy level. Those are things I can’t defend. What I can defend is trying to create opportunities for him, but not if it’s at the expense of someone who’s out there hustling and playing hard. Really, everyone needs to take a hard look in the mirror and decide what they want that next chapter to look like. And in Dexter’s case, maybe taking a brief timeout, trying to reassess himself and give him a chance for a strong second half is probably what’s best for everybody. I’m hopeful to touch base with him in the near future and really just decide what makes the most sense. But clearly, he’s not playing at the level we’d hoped.”

Amazingly in his 4 years with the Cardinals only 30 more hits & 8 more runs scored than his 2 years with the Cubs.

A staggering 119 days on the injured list with the Cardinals after getting big money.

Minus his good first year with the Cardinals 218 320 370 690 86

Cardinals sent 12¾ mil with him to the Angels his final year that he spent 177 days on the injured list.

You don't know how different injuries would be or if they would occur had things played out differently, but the Cubs never had a true leadoff man after he left and his career was an injury mess when he left.

I suspect things would have played out a lot better for both parties (Cubs and Dex) had they come to an agreement to resign him.

Not only did Theo's love for Almora prevent Verlander from landing at Wrigley, but Almora was why the Cubs moved on from Fowler.

Theo must of known Dexter Fowler didn't have the character to play hard with multi year big money and would tank it like he did in St Louis. If so not reupping him was a brilliant move.
