Worth his weight in gold?

Absolutely, I say.

It's laughable watching the Sox fans troll Cub threads and jealously downplay his value.

How many times has Joe worn out his welcome? No longer fit with a MLB team as manager?

He's a great manager and I still have a hard time believing he is with the Cubs. I predict...(RIP Mike Murphy)...he retires and rides off into the sunset and the HOF as the manager who won the modern Cubs the WS.

He's worn out his welcome once. In the one previous job he had.

While I agree with your point, even a cursory review of the internet will show reports from Tampa detailing happiness that he had moved on to the Cubs. Players, including Chris Archer, stepped up unafraid to have quotes attached to their names.

Now, obviously they were foolish. Joe Maddon is the best manager in baseball. Despite many, many other teams having such things as dress up days, it is the way he does it that sets him apart. Go Cubs. Go Cats.

I don't understand the bizarre fixation on dress-up and zoo days.

Could someone please explain

The pictures and references to these moves are omnipresent and frequently used as examples of him taking pressure of his young players, brilliantly I might add. Go Cubs. Go Cats.

Please direct the question to The Great Joe Maddon.

Huh? Chris Archer took a shot at Maddon when Maddon decided to leave. Something about loyalty. He then went on to talk about how upset he was that Maddon was leaving.

I read about Longoria and others talking about how tired all the antics had become.

No he didn't. He opted OUT of his contract. He wanted to manage in a major market. Maddon is perfect for this team. I can't imagine another manager getting 97 wins out of this team. His ability to coach young players and keep them loose, should not be ignored.

Not one major prospect has been a complete bust under Maddon. He did the same thing with the prospects in Tampa Bay. It is incredible how many succeed under his watch.

It's funny all these former players became all-stars under his watch and now they bash him when he is gone. Ungrateful, spoiled, superstars.

It's to relieve the stress of the 162 game race.

So, this team isn't too good, really just very ordinary and Maddon is making them play better?

OK, so the regular season started April 5th and ended October 4th...182 days.

In those 182 days we had:
a magician
a hawks jersey day
a pajama day
a zoo day
a rookie dress day

5 days out 182.

I think Bosio also deserves a lot of credit along with bullpen/quality research guy,Mike Borchard.

The Cubs have a lot of guys behind the scenes stirring the soup.

I read about Longoria and others talking about how tired all the antics had become.

If only someone could develop an internet search engine:
“Everybody who’s here is looking forward to a new year, just a fresh start and something that’s different,” Longoria added. “Sometimes things are needed and necessary to kind of keep you on track.”
The Rays’ career leader in home runs and RBI stressed that that’s no knock on Maddon, who guided the Rays to four playoffs berths over a six-year span before finishing with Tampa Bay’s first losing record since 2007 last season.
The most successful manager in team history opted out of the final year of his contract before signing with the Chicago Cubs. The Rays hired Kevin Cash, who has no previous managerial experience, to succeed the popular Maddon.
“Obviously, he did so many great things for the franchise, and so many great things for me as a player,” Longoria said. “But I guess all good things come to an end at some point.

Wow that was pretty much scorched earth from Longoria.

"I really don't think anyone misses those (theme trips)," Archer said. "That was just Joe's thing to bring some newness and different-minded things to old-school culture. It was cool to have for a few years, but then we moved on from the extracurriculars."

Longoria agreed, saying the culture change is complete.

"I don't miss (the costumes)," he said.

Thanks Peeps.

Though I'd still say that's not exactly scathing.

No, it's not like they said they hated him. In fact, most wished him well. Still, it basically comes off as "that shit was cool the first time, but eventually we just wanted to play ball and he wouldn't stop the nonsense."

Agreed. That's not really surprising, though. Veterans probably did a lot of eye-rolling. But that's no different than guys not liking Tony LaRussa because he's a dick or not liking Lou Piniella because they couldn't understand what he was saying. Every manager is going to rub some people the wrong way. It just can't negatively impact their play.

No one ever questioned they enjoyed it for a while.

I am sure there will be no fatigue of it in Chicago, as there was in Tampa, because the Cubs are awesome and they have waves and waves of new talent that will constantly be replacing the old guys. The fun days will be new to each new wave. Go Cubs. Go Cats

What's the problem?

After five years, either Martinez or Ross is taking over anyway.

Yeah I guess that's why they were so happy to see him gone they demanded an investigation.
