I hate to even bring it up right now, but I just feel that the negotiations with Paulie are going to get ugly, especially after listening to Steve Stone make some points.

He talked about making bigger money when you are a free agent and you play into your free agent year risking injury or generally just a bad season.

Paulie has done everything they could have asked from him. Big hits, leader on the club, moved Frank's crying butt out of the spotlight, didn't complain about the $9M a year offer the Sox game him (yes, I would take $9M), he just took the high road and went to play.

My concern is going to be a low ball or huge deferred offer and then Paulie gets offers from the Yankees, Houston, Annaheim, Boston and while he might not be in it all for money, they offer so much more that he leaves.

Gotta take 2 in Houston and get me a broom

Until the second half of this season the Sox would have been crazy to offer him 9 million per in a long time contract...and he would have been crazy not to jump at it.

Now, who knows. If he leaves, Carlos Delgado is available and is a better hitter.

That is what they offered him, he rejected it and said wait until the offseason. It was before the start of training camp.

It will be very interesting because Reinsdorf always says he has no problem paying for performance and Konerko performed as well as can be expected.

I agree it doesn't matter right now, but it will be fiun to watch
