I miss IkeSouth Bulls threads :(

A typically streaky and unpredictable Ducks team comes into town having just dropped two games in regulation to noted offensive dynamos Dallas and Phoenix. That notwithstanding, they still, as far as I know, have the dangerous RPG line and Teemu Selanne. Cam Fowler's pretty good for a kid, too. The rest of their roster can buh-low me.

Jonas Hiller comes into tonight having been chased off the ice with 5 goals in 28 minutes against Phoenix, and went an unthreatening 16/19 in a complete game loss to the Stars before that. Hiller's clearly not as BACK! as people were proclaiming him to be after his vertigo issues made people think he'd have to retire altogether, but he's always a risk for a standout performance, and after seeing four team-carrying efforts from Lehtonen and Varlamov already, wouldn't it be just our luck if he's on his game tonight. We could well see Dan Ellis tonight, in which case no excuses.

Jesus backflipping Christ, teen heartthrob Corey Perry is the reigning MVP of this league. He's not a bad player, don't get me wrong, but vis-a-vis the amazing talent in the NHL right now even without Crosby, this is sort of like if the 1994 NBA MVP went to John Starks.

Prospective lines for tonight, assuming that Quenneville will continue to indulge his delusion that Viktor Stalberg is anything but a 13th forward but also assuming that Mayers/Carcillo/O'Donnell is enough to keep the Ducks honest without resorting to John Scott:
Sharp-Toews-Brunette
Stalberg-Kane-Hossa
Bickell-Bolland-Frolik
Carcillo-Kruger-Mayers
Keith-Leddy
Seabrook-Hammer
Montador-Oldonnell
Crawford

sorry :(

Ducks apparently bumped Bobby Ryan to the second line in favor of something called "Patrick Maroon." Wonder how long that lasts.

if you're going to do a proper homage to an ikesouth bulls thread you've gotta put a score in there too.... something akin to HAWKS 8, EMILIO'S LITTLE BITCHES 1

it's ok though, because it's quite impossible to create the magic of a proper ike post... this whiteandproud dude tries and fails.

For obvious reasons this is Sinclyapes's best post ever.

Thanks for the info, I just went and picked Maroon up for my fantasy team. Its a 20 team league so anyone playing on a first or second line is a must pick up. And even if he sucks and gets dumped back down in a couple games all it cost me was Eric Belanger. I could always go back to the wire and get Cody McCloud who I seem to have on my team every season. Needless to say, I haven't won a championship. But, PIMS and hits count so McCloud isn't completely useless.

Hiller's on. 11/11 through 20, and that's with zero power play SOG. Feels like it'll be closer than it ought to be.

They had a lot of shots, but I don't remember any tough saves for Hiller.

Is Frank Pellico only allowed to play

- "Eye of the Tiger"
- "Maniac"
- "Theme from Rocky"

If you're going to have organ music, have organ music. I know it's not the Stadium organ, but hey.

Oh of course the Ducks score.

Kaner's really maturing on the ice this season. Nice play in both ends.

Leddy playing his ass off, too.

Selanne just pantsed the Hawks. Right back down again. Not feeling good about this one. Crawford's sv% is gonna take a beating tonight.

For the love of God, call a penalty on the Ducks tonight. Perennially one of the gooniest teams in the league and yet they're getting away with everything.

I really wonder if Q is gonna keep him as the second center all year long... and what an attribute that would be for this franchise moving forward. Only a handful of teams can trot out two premier centers on their top two lines. I hope this works.

KANER!!!!!!!!

Remember that game last night cause in 10-15 years when they are putting together Kaner's lifetime highlight reel that play will definitely be in there.

Easily the leading contender for pass of the year in the NHL so far.

How did this wind up working for you?

Game 3 of 4 with the Ducks tonight. Ben Smith is back up to dress for Carcillo, who hurt himself being bad the other night in St. Paul.

The Ducks have Bruce Boudreau coaching them now, bringing a new flavor of eventual disappointment to a squad that was already more or less doomed for the year. Their defense/goaltending is bad at 3.1 per (24th). Their scoring is worse at 2.33 (26th). They're still as deep as a duck pond, despite splitting up RPG. Lubomir Visnovky and Cam Fowler are pretty good at the blue line, but that's about it back there.

Ray Emery's starting again, against the team with whom he further protracted his career, dragging a terribly mediocre team to 4th place in a vertigo-stricken Jonas Hiller's stead.

prospective lines:
Stalberg - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Kruger - Hossa
Bickell - Bolland - Frolik
Brunette - Mayers - Smith
Good ol' 2 - 7
Leddy - Hjalmarsson
Montador - O'Donnell
Emery

Niklas Hagman - Ryan Getzlaf - Corey Perry
Andrew Cogliano - Bobby Ryan - Teemu Selanne
a third line
a fourth line
Lubo Visnovsky -Cam Fowler
Luca Sbisa - Tony Lydman
two more guys
either Jonas Hiller or Dan Ellis, I dunno, Ducks have a back-to-back with Selanne returning to WINNIPEG tomorrow

For the year, the Ducks are playing worse than every team in the league but Carolina and Columbus. SHOULD be the night the Hawks remember that they can indeed have regulation wins, but the Ducks played us close both times and Carolina shut us out so you never know
