Yep, it's the dreaded First Night Back, in which the Hawks perennially get too loose and wind up getting pantsed by a bad team. Tonight's opposition is the worst-case scenario for this, a team that's horrific on paper but somehow pulling wins out of their asses against the league's mediocre-to-bad teams. Their leading scorers appear to be Radim Vrbata and Ray Whitney (see?), and have a guy on defense named "Dave Schlemko," which sounds more like the name of a Slap Shot character than an actual hockey player. Mike Smith has been better than he should be in replacing Ilya Bryzgalov, who has been about as successful in Philadelphia as any goalie in Philadelphia. By the way, Quebec City is looking like more and more of a reality.

Carcillo is back in the lineup after getting scratched for Scott. Let's hope that never has to happen again. Probably looking at

Sharp - Toews - Stalberg
Carcillo - Kane - Hossa
Kruger - Bolland - Frolik
Bickell - Mayers - Brunette
Keith - Seabrook
Leddy - Hjalmarsson
Montador - O'Donnell
Crawford

In the words of Devin Hester, "let's win a win, we need a win."

Dave Schlemko is a damn good hockey name, I envy that guy... Hawks win?

They're playing like shit again, especially Crawford. Doubt it.

This was supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league.

I'm sure this is a dumb question, but how much blame falls on Coach Q for not getting his players ready? There have been several games where the Hawks just come out flat. I know the players are grown men, but what gives?

I can't really explain that, but theoretically that roster is pretty damn bad, and they've been doing this without their 2nd/3rd best player this season... maybe it's all just a rally against that little biotch; you know, the "we'll show him" sort of thing...

Last night's game was an absolute dud to a point where Coach Q actually benched Corey Crawford in favor of Ray Emery in the 3rd period at goalie. I'm not sure what that really means, except with a back-to-back this weekend vs. the Islanders at the U.C. Friday and at St. Louis Saturday night, I've got to think Emery starts one of the games. The Coyotes are back Monday night on the West Side, and guess who's going for his birthday? That's right...ME! :D

Aw fuck, not these assholes again.

Have a fun time at the game tonight, SHARK. Hope it's better than the last embarrassment against them. Ray Whitney should not be anyone's scoring leader in 2012, or ever. These guys should fuckin' blow.

Curious, it's the NHL schedule. Don't know what to tell you about that. Corey Crawford starts tonight in goal for the Blackhawks, but Coach Q says backup Ray Emery could be seeing more playing time if Crawford continues to struggle in the net like he has lately. Tonight's game starts at 7p to accommodate VERSUS/NBC Sports Network.

prospective lines:
Carcillo - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Kruger - Hossa
Smith - Bolland - Frolik
Brunette - Mayers - Stalberg

This would be a good night to have Sami Lepisto around on trapbusting duty. Probably gonna be the same six as Saturday night, though.

And Crawford, god help us all

I don't like when sharp and Toews are split up, but if you are going to have Kruger at center might be smart to have Hossa and Sharp with him.

Fucking Stalberg is just awful. Gives Roberto Duran a run for his money when it comes to having hands of stone. Stop fucking playing him with the top 6, he cant hang with them.

Every time we have them dead to rights and still fuck it up, I hear Stalberg's name called.

What a shitty loss. Emery is worthless in shootouts, apparently. Amazing night from Toews wasted because he couldn't stop shots from future Hall of Famers Radim Vrbata and Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Emery helped them get a point they weren't gonna get otherwise.

That's true, and Stalberg/Hossa should've converted on one of their numerous chances so that we wouldn't need to go to the shootout. Just sucks, you know? Especially when it's a loss to these bitches. It's like losing to Nashville or Dallas. System teams can blow me. At least Vancouver and Detroit have legitimate players.

Hope the ten Coyotes fans in America enjoyed the victory as they count down the days before the team packs up for la vieille capitale.

Emery looked to be every bit of his 73 yrs the way he moved in the shootout.

Tied for second in points league-wide. But this is a dead-ass team. Tell Brenly to print it.
