Turkey burgers are OK. A beef burger is better. Turkey tacos suck. I'll be grilling a turkey meatloaf tonite actually.

In chili, pasta sauces, sloppy toms, hamburger helper, etc, ground turkey is just fine and in some cases preferred.

anytime you are using ground beef for tacos, you're already doing it wrong.

If you prefer turkey from a price or taste standpoint then to each his own. But if it's from a health standpoint then I still say why bother...particularly when you acknowledge a preference for the taste and apparent "filling" quality of beef.

95/5 ground beef = 150 calories, 5 grams fat, 2.5 grams saturated fat
 This is quite a rabbit hole. Why not just use 100/0 ground beef? That has 0 fat!

To me, and it may be just because of how high the fat content is of ground beef normally, ground beef with a fat content of 10% or less tastes strange. I bought the 95/5 stuff once and didn't realize it and it was noticeably bad. Meanwhile, the 93/7 ground turkey always works out.

So, I guess the answer to your question would be that ground turkey tastes nearly as good while being much healthier compared to the comparable option of ground beef that would also taste good.

Fair enough. IMO, both are too lean for most uses.

That's a bad take Rick. Ground beef is a lot better.

Beef is generally better, but there are certain things I like ground turkey better for. One is meat sauce for pasta.

You need to learn how to make a good turkey burger.

Nah, but I've had them several times. A good turkey burger is noticeably inferior to a good ground beef burger.

Are you sure you don't have a split-personality disorder? It's like reading what a two-headed ogre would argue with themselves about in a Whole Foods store.

Ye gods.

Use Pork neck bones for the sauce/gravy, ya Cretin. Maybe it'll cover for such a gross error in judgement.

The problem turkey has is the same problem as ultra lean ground beef has when it comes to burgers. With out the fat there is nothing there to bind it and it dries out and crumbles to easily. I've had decent turkey burgers but they had to use a binder of some sort to keep it from crumbling too much. Fat is your friend when it comes to ground meats. With a loose meat its not as big a deal as long as you are seasoning it well.

True.. thats the extra fat in the dark meat. I'm not sure I've seen ground dark meat at the store but I really don't buy turkey products unless it's thanksgiving.

Can you order it medium rare? If not it's an inferior burger.
