It looks like it went into effect. I can't wait to see this tax fail and for the county to collect less in sales tax revenue when smart shoppers cross the county line to buy.

Friend of mine posted on FB today. $2.88 tax on a $5.99 case of Sprite. That blows for those not able to go to the collars.

Soda addiction is a real deal problem. It was hard for me to give up the sugary sweetness, but I'm glad I did like 6 years ago. Lost weight, and felt better immediately.

for a single pack of soda, sure, but I bet many will buy in bulk (at places like Costco) or just do their entire grocery shopping trip out of the county. I spend about $180 a week on groceries so if I lived in Cook County and did my trips in DuPage county, that change being done by many other households would really add up in lost sales tax revenue.
