apologies if this thread exists somewhere...I need to replace an old Toro (self-Propelled, Bag)...actually need to replace my son that moved out that used to mow the lawn (did not care one bit over how good the thing was, just get it done)...anyway, never considered an electric...recommendations for a self propelled model, and should I stick with gas?

I'll hang up and listen for your answer. And thank you in advance for your sorrow that I am poor.

I have a Honda self propelled 21" and it's never given me a problem in the 8 years I've owned it. The Toro Timemaster is supposed to be the gold standard for self propelled lawn mowers but they're $1600.

The gas walk behind mowers barely use 5 gallons of gas in an entire mowing season, I don't think there's any advantage or savings with electric considering the cost if a battery goes bad prematurely or the certainty that they'll eventually die and need to be replaced.

We were in the same spot last year, replacing an old Toro that didn’t like starting without a full carb cleaning.

I was skeptical but went electric. Greenworks had a slightly wider deck (25”) on a big sale that I went with and it’s been great. Batteries haven’t been a huge issue; I couldn’t finish one mow early in the year when the grass was long, but otherwise never had an issue in a single mow. Easy to clean and easy to store. Self propelled and you can adjust the walking speed. It also has a “boost” feature that amp up the power if you’re working through some taller or thicker stuff.

Would recommend.

If your yard is .25 acre or less, electric makes sense. Ifbyou already are in a power tool ecosystem check if their mower is good just so you don't have to manage different batteries

Thanks for your input...I am concerned about the ability of any self propelled to get up and down our small inclines (that as I age, have become steeper...fucking geographical changes  )

There’s a whole YouTube universe of rednecks who just try out different mowers and compare their performance through a variety of situations. You wouldn’t think a guy could earn a living as a Mowing Influencer, but you’d be wrong.

Came in pretty handy last year.

Some seek out the advice of rednecks on YouTube, others try to find solace on Chicagofanatics.com...we're all lost, basically

I’ve been electric for 10 years now and love it but the caveat is the size of the lawn. As mentioned above, a quarter acre is likely the limit for consistent performance. I’ve had a Worx and it’s been great and have heard glowing reviews on eGo units.

If you buy at Costco it comes with an extra battery. I have a little over a 1/2 acre and I can usually complete with both batteries. I use one battery then charge the other and when the first dies I put it back on the charger. If it’s a bit longer I have had to run the recharged the 1st for a bit to finish. Didn’t think I would ever like it but it beats the hell out of fucking with gas and winterizing and all the other gas issues.

Without knowing your snow removal situation, if you are considering electric for lawnmowing you might want to consider a brand also strong with snowblowing should you ever decide to go electric there, too.

We are in a reverse situation; we bought an Ego snowblower which came with two enormous batteries. So if/when we need to replace one of our gas lawnmowers (we have two), we will first consider an Ego.

I've got an EGO mower, 22" self propelled with the 10ah battery. Quarter acre lot, and if im not lazy and mow before it gets tall I can get two mows between charges. Plenty of power (more than my Briggs engine mower) and it's quiet which is huge for me.

Electric lawn mowers?

High estrogen levels are ruining everything in this country.

That's my plan. Have the Ego snowblower and an old crappy gas mower. Whenever the mower decides to die, I'm going electric.

Consider converting your lawn to a meadow in order to sustain pollinators.

Anybody who does this needs to be forcibly evicted.
