Rogers inherited Cherry from the CBC in 2014 (Sportsnet has produced Hockey Night for the CBC since) and was never terribly interested in having him or Ron MacLean there. They cut Coach's Corner's runtime down to almost nothing and took Ron off pre, post, and second intermission, then Don started calling them out for cutting his time and Ron's replacement was a huge bust. Then over the summer it seemed like Cherry and Rogers were at an impasse and were going to let him go and at the last minute they came to an agreement. This is just cover for them to do what they wanted to do four or five months ago, but woke. I think what says it all is that the public broadcaster dealt with his shit for years and years, but it was the private sector that sold him out the first chance they got.
