So there is quite a rain legacy to this song.

The studio version sucks compared to this one. It was recorded in a D tuning on the low string, but the live version is in E. Hard to tune up, but sounds much better. I play this song all the time on my Guild DCE-5 acoustic.

JPJ's string accompaniment with the mellotron is beautiful. They were all geniuses.

Have you listened to any of the live versions? That's where the magic is with Jimmy's solos. He never played the same solo twice.

The Songs Remains The Same version of Stairway is very good, but there were better versions from the '73 tour, like Seattle and Vancouver. Even the first night in Chicago is very good. The '71 versions are great, because Plant's voice was still high registering and he could hit all the high notes at the end.
