This is a terrible idea.
It is but I get it. The refs brought it on themselves with that Saints Rams game. There’s a good chance that will be the worst blown call, considering how blatant it was and the situation and stakes, ill ever see in my life in any sport. They had to do something.
This will sound idealistic, but I think they should lessen replay. It has turned the refs into cowards. This is definitely a reaction to the Saints, but that was a one-off. More often than not, they are calling it too much. IMO.
I don't think they should lessen the replay system, but definitely the time spent reviewing should be cut down. The replay screen should automatically shut off after 45 seconds. If that happens, then the call on the field stands. A blatantly missed call is probably going to be obvious after the first or second replay shown. If after that 45 seconds and a few replays the call to be overturned is not obvious, then looking at it for 2-3 minutes is not likely going to change anything. That way the game stops for literally 90 seconds at most.

who will pull the first john fox and challenge for a defensive PI call only to have the refs come back to say it was actually offfensive PI?
That should never happen. If the coaches are challenging a specific non-call, then they have to stipulate that when they are throwing the flag. "Hey, we think our WR was interfered with," or "#99 was holding," and the refs can ONLY look at that. Again, 45 seconds is plenty of time to see if there was PI or holding, etc.
