Oddly quiet on the Bears side tonight. Apparently everyone is happy that they might be over .500 next season and don’t care that last night was pretty much the end of the fun.

I shut it off after pick nine last night. Cubs won. Sox lost. Bears upgraded. I went to bed happy.

At least Sox fans have no expectations so when each team inevitably fails at least they won’t suffer like poor Nas most certainly will.

I just hope he is allowed back in the country.

You want people to trash talk the later rounds of an amateur draft?

Yeah, everything I'm reading is that they probably won't pick up the option for year 5.

Not picking up his 5th year option. I was mostly joking, but I love that they are building up their OL.

Hub just said that of the 15-20 NFL GMs with whom he spoke prior to the draft, none of them gave Michael Penix a first-round grade. Does anyone believe that Hub is in contact with even one NFL GM?

I find that hard to believe.

Maybe Hub forgot what was said.

Unrelated...

"The Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants did make offers to the New England Patriots for the No. 3 pick to take Drake Maye," Breer wrote Friday. "Earlier this week, Minnesota offered the Nos. 11 and 23 picks, and its 2025 first-rounder, with pick swaps favoring the Vikings as part of the proposal; and that offer ticked up with New England on the clock. The Giants, meanwhile, did wind up putting their 2025 first-round pick in their offer to move from No. 6 to No. 3.

"Ultimately, nothing came close to moving the Patriots off their choice. In fact, that Kevin O’Connell and Brian Daboll were the head coaches interested, only emboldened New England to stay put."

We are waiting to see if our team will have an average age of .7 less than the league median.

Dang center out of the U was just taken by Bengals. I was hoping he might be someone the Bears were able to sign as a FA

Seems like he takes the spot Larry Borom had last year, backup LT/LG/RG and maybe occasional TE3 in goal line situations. With the inevitable injuries he will see game action a few times during the season.

Hopefully he will be a better lineman than Dan Jiggets.

A post from this morning got me interested in the sucess rate of all 1st round NFL QBs. For the sake of recency and being fair to the rookies, I decided to look at 2013-2022.

There have been 30 QBs drafted in the 1st round in the last 10 years. I would consider the following 12 to be sucessful NFL starters:

Jared Goff (2016)

Patrick Mahommes (2017)

Deshaun Watson (2017)

Baker Mayfield (2018)

Josh Allen (2018)

Lamar Jackson (2018)

Kyler Murray (2019)

Joe Burrow (2020)

Tua Tugavoila (2020)

Justin Herbert (2020)

Jordan Love (2020)

Trevor Lawrence (2021)

I would consider these 18 QBs to be unsuccessful picks:

EJ Manuel (2013)

Blake Bortles (2014)

Johnny Manziel (2014)

Teddy Bridgewater (2014)

Jameis Winston (2015)

Marcus Mariota (2015)

Carson Wentz (2016)

Paxton Lynch (2016)

Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky (2017)

Sam Darnold (2018)

Josh Rosen (2018)

Daniel Jones (2019)

Dwayne Haskins (2019)

Zach Wilson (2021)

Trey Lance (2021)

Justin Fields (2021)

Mac Jones (2021)

Kenny Pickett (2022)
