The NBA rigging to get the Lakers in the NBA Playoffs? Well, NBA/TNT has the Mavericks/Lakers' game tonight as the second game of their doubleheader starting with Knicks/Heat at 7P. The game's also on ESPN Radio after Steve Kashul wraps up Bulls/Wizards' coverage on the Bulls Radio Network around 9:30P-ish... I don't buy it for a second. |

It isn't shocking, no sir. Stern wants the Lakers in the playoffs, he makes a call, information is disseminated and on and on. Doesn't this happen all the time? |

Not rigged, influenced to varying degrees is probably more accurate. |

They don't have an easy schedule the rest of the way and they lost a lot of winnable games recently. IF Kobe is messing around and getting triple doubles then anything is possible. |

It wouldn't be a precedent for Kobe to miss the playoffs. They missed in '05 during the Rudy Tomjonovich, post-Shaq year. There's more than enough star power for the playoffs to be entertaining without two old guys (Kobe/Nash) and one overrated boring guy (Howard). |

IIRC the Lakers organization have only missed the playoffs 5 times in the past 50 years. |

I think they were only supposed to win like. 35 games that year. They were supposed to win like 65 this year. It's as disappointing a season as it gets for a franchise like LA. Nas - any chance you like the Mavs or Jazz over the Spurs in Round 1? ![]() |

Mavs/Spurs would be a good series. Spurs would win in 5. Maybe 6 if Dallas stole a win somewhere along the way. |

The Lakers will be irrelevant this postseason, but I would have loved to see how they would perform with Jackson as coach. They sealed their fates when they hired D'Antoni as coach. He's nothing more than a charlatan who refuses or is unable to adapt to the strengths of his roster. Like I said in another thread, any coach who has no use for a healthy Pau Gasol is an idiot. |

This despite the Clippers (!) about to win the Pacific Division by a comfortable margin, currently 6 1/2 games over the Warriors. |
