hey CH, all things considered who's your #1 most detestable person in your history of the NHL?
I don't have a clue how to answer that. The NHL's history consists entirely of detestable people.
You could go with Alan Eagleson, the former leader of the NHLPA who embezzled from his players' pensions and defrauded his players out of their insurance settlements. Or Bruce McNall, former owner of the LA Kings who made his fortune stealing rare coins and selling them. He even managed to scam Michael Eisner out of $25 million. Harold Ballard of the Maple Leafs was just a grubby old bastard on the level of Bill Wirtz. And then there's Bill Wirtz himself. Gary Bettman is obviously up there.
The worst of the worst, however, might be Bob Batterman, legal counsel to the NHL during the 2012-13 lockout, who was also legal counsel to the NBA during the 2011-12 lockout, and, for the hat trick, legal counsel to the NFL during their 2011 lockout. There's a guy headed for the pitchforks.
