What's up everybody,

Megan here, grew up in Berwyn, moved to the burbs a few years back. Bears and Sox mostly, which means a lot of suffering, but I still go to a few games at the Rate every summer with my brother.

Been reading the board for a while, especially the media threads since I have the Score on in the car all day. Figured it was time to stop lurking.

Go Bears, I guess.

And the one in which my mom grew up in. I heard it used to be stocked with Italians until they all moved to Des Plaines.

One could argue inner-ring suburbs with L service aren't really "the burbs" per se. It's more like Cambridge or Somerville's relationship to Boston.

Are you trying to Bostonsplain Chicagoland?

I just think a pure city-suburb divide is unnecessarily reductive, that's all. Berwyn has a prominent blues venue. Most suburbs tend not to.

Cambridge is a vibrant suburb of Boston known for its rich academic and cultural scene, housing prestigious institutions like Harvard University and MIT. It offers a mix of historic charm and modern amenities, making it a desirable place to live and work.

I like CH, so I don't want to be too hard on him, but this was more of an opportunity to show off his Boston knowledge than make the Berwyn dynamic understandable.

I am a large enthusiast of his writing…

It was just an unintentionally hilarious post. I’d imagine most of the bored has some passing familiarity with Berwyn that does not benefit in any way from a discussion on Boston’s neighborhood dynamics. It’d be like trying to explain the docks at Millennium Park by referencing recent dredging work in Jacksonville.

I can’t believe I’ve been telling everyone my whole life I’m from just outside Chicago when I could have just said I’m from Chicago. I never wanted to be one of the those people claiming to be from the city when they’re not. This is a game changer for me.

I am hearing that more and more now. People just say Chicago without any guilt.

I guess I am fine with that. People in the South Suburbs say they are from the South Side, and now that the South Suburbs are largely rough places, I'd say they earned it. I am also too tired of correcting people

and pullin out my blick,

It’s people in the city that want to play this game of you’re not from Chicago if you grew up in Naperville. Fine. But I’ll be damned if a poster from Lake Geneva and residing in AH is suddenly going to declare Berwyn part of Chicago. Lol.

They call me the Hair, and I got something to say,
About the state of cities in the USA.
A mult named Megan was born in the burbs,
That place sings the blues I hope you heard.

A guy named Jorr decides if you’re from Chi town,
Why would we accept the thoughts of this clown?
I come from Wisconsin and will weigh in,
That you’re from the city if livin’ in Berwyn.

Do you think there's any difference between being from Evanston and being from Huntley?

Yes. And neither are Chicagoans.

Good thing I never said that. I said they occupied a space between city and suburbia-qua-suburbia and everyone lost their minds because I made an analogy to cities that border Boston.
