I don't know if this is a phenomena of corporate radio, but it seemed like once Dan took over after Terry's departure, his shows, and the daytime lineup, to an extent, all got REALLY guest-heavy. Like, there were times during the classic B&B run where they'd have an hour of programming with nothing but callers and riffing, but now it seems like no show can have two consecutive segments that don't feature a guest of some kind.
I didn't notice it happening immediately after Terry left, but at some point between then and, say, the pandemic, that absolutely is what happened. Part of the shift to "podcasts that also happen to be on the radio." On a corporate level, I wonder if it dovetailed with one of Francesa's retirements, since a lot of his shows were also just unhappily arguing with callers.
And even a lot of guest appearances on B&B weren't taken seriously. Do you remember one they did with John Madden, not the Hawks checking-line center but THE literal John Madden, where it was either an unusually disjointed interview or literally just an EPK (they actually used to use these on the North show!) and they spent the rest of the hour just riffing on how terrible the whole thing was? I'm trying to see if I have the one with Carlos Marmol where they realized he didn't really speak English and ended it with "if you would like a transcript of the Carlos Marmol interview, write to 670 The Score, NBC Tower, Chicago."
