Civale requested the trade. Kind of a "be careful what you wish for."
Good riddance to Vaughn. They gave him his chances.
Earlier in the week, I read that Civale wanted to be traded because they were going to move him to the bullpen and I thought it was a kind of a dick move. So, I guess they showed him.
But, come on Brewers, you couldn't do better than Andrew Vaughn? How bad are things in Milwaukee that this guy is going to do absolutely anything for you?
It's basically cash. Civale is making $8M and the Brewers are sending $500k along. So they traded Civale for $1M.
If the Brewers fall out of the playoff race by late July, they will probably trade Hoskins, maybe to the Red Sox. Vaughn can stand at 1B for a few weeks in that scenario, if they don't DFA him before that.
Civale was putting up decent numbers. It's disappointing that, in trading him, they didn't try and improve the team.
