A lot of things would have to go wrong to be under 5 wins. 8-9 wins sounds correct, given the young unproven talent on the offense mixed with the old vets on the line. I am not thrilled at how they ignored the defensive line in the draft. Colston better be a game changer to justify passing up both of the lines.

Brick before you go full bore with "just asking questions" i will simply say this. It is surprising that the preseason prognostication is exactly the same this year as it was last season. Particularly so given the fact that there was universal agreement around here that the previous coach sucked. The win total prediction should be bumped for no other reason than this alone.

But Vegas was wrong. It may have been because the coach performed worse than they thought. He did blow at least two wins.

A 5 win team being over/under of 8.5 means they are predicted to be improved.

It has everything to do with it. Vegas thought they were good enough last year to be .500. The coach underperforming may have been why they weren't.

Vegas had the Jets at 10.5 wins last year with Rodgers at QB and a poor head coach. This year Vegas has them at 5.5 wins with Fields at QB and a new head coach. Shouldn't the upgrade at QB, new coach and focus on offense in the draft kept them at 10 wins? They fell all the way down to 5 wins

Your argument that the Bears should have a better projected record then last year doesn't hold up when you introduce other similar situations. You can't say the Bears should be better then last year and deflect explaining why the Jets are projected to win half as many games as last year in a similar situation.

vegas had o/u around the same before 2024 season started. too bad i didnt have a time machine because under 6 wins would have been a hell of a bet through 5.99 games played.

Vegas compared Justin Fields to an old washed up Aaron Rodgers to the tune of 5 wins this year.

My point is the Vegas numbers are designed to hook you in to bet the over or under on your favorite team. 8.5 is what they think will get people to bet one way or another. There are too many unknown factors to say the Bears will win 10 games or 5 games. People would pound the under at 10 or the over at 5. Are they an 8 win team, probably not. Are they are 10 win team. Most likely not. It's all about the odds.

Last year Vegas knew Eberflus, the O-Line and the D-Line was not good but Caleb, Rome and the new offensive coordinator was the unknowns. They predicted 8 wins and when the offensive coordinator failed with Caleb and Rome it went South fast.

Hopefully this year, Johnson and Co. correct the mistakes from last year and the unknown turns into 10+ wins instead of 5 wins from the 8 Vegas started at.

They can't just throw frivolous numbers out however or else they lose credibility as a service. And no one can predict with certainty with sports because there are too many variables. But it is clear that the Johnson hire wasn't viewed as enthusisticaly by them as it was viewed by "us" or else there would be an actual bump from last season
