His doctoral thesis (published in 1982) was literally a thesis of Holocaust denialism and he financed the 1973 Munich attack... It's funny how the world loves to ignore this and is only now realizing Abbas has never been a peace partner. Heck, Israel has never had a true peace partner on the Palestinian side. They had one with Egypt and Jordan (and we saw how those blossomed) and it now looks like they might even have one in Saudi Arabia of all places.

Oh well, the Palestinians can continue to make poor choices if they wish, they will just suffer the continued consequences of their refusal to accept Israel's overtures for peace. Even the Palestinians' Arab allies are done with them at this point. Abba Eban's quote on them continuing to miss opportunities rings true.

I wouldn't trust the Saudis one bit. Their brand of Islam is the most evil one of all.

I don't know what's to be done with Palestine. It can't stand on its own as an independent country, it's too devastated by years of losing war to recover. A one-state solution is scary because Muslims breed too much and they'll make Jews a minority in their own home. Can't really go populate the Sinai because the Sinai is virtually uninhabitable -- not that the West Bank is a fertile oasis itself.

I wouldn't trust the Saudis, but the new generation of leadership seems to realize they can't run a country based upon 7th century rules. The 32 year old crown prince (MBS) is going to take over when the 83 year old geriatric king croaks soon. He more or less already is running the country and seems pretty determined to cast aside much of what the previous monarchs have done there. The question now isn't if, but when will he make a Sadat like trip to Jerusalem.

I've always been sour on the Saudis, but it seems like they finally have a up and coming ruler who is a true reformer with the backing to accomplish it.

Give him a chance, he has to execute his reforms while also not ending up dead like Sadat. At the very least I believe his overtures to Israel to be genuine, if for no other reason than he fears a nuclear Iran as much as Jerusalem does. The failure that was the Obama nuclear deal did have some very odd unintended consequences there turning old foes into friends.
