Good god, on every social media account right now the DEEPER MEANING of Kendrick Lamar's Halftime show is being broken down by posts, youtube clips, over and over and over. The guy is obviously talented to have such a big fanbase and a great rapper, but this wreaks of desperation to make a sh#tty halftime show seem...not sh#tty Playstation controller, red, white and blue split, Uncle Sam, Williams sister dancing, got it the first time and it sucked. |

if it takes that much explanation to interpret a song and dance number, that tells me that he did a shitty job sending a "message" |

It's just a redo of Donald Glover's "This Is America." If you saw that, you saw this. |

Curious Hair wrote: It's just a redo of Donald Glover's "This Is America." If you saw that, you saw this. "This is America" hit way harder. I really have no idea what Kendrick Lamar's intentions were. I just know he hates Drake and that seems more important to him than anything else. Throw a little black Uncle Sam in there to get them RACISTS! howling and let me go off on Drizzy cuz he Not Like Us. |

FWIW my algorithms are still giving me fifty minute videos about interwar heavy cruisers, StarCraft 2 highlights, clips from Moneyball and cooking videos. No woke Kendrick breakdowns sadly, I’d probably click if I got em. |

The point, because writers for the Guardian named like "Connor Feibelman" told me so, is that America, or rather the vast American cultural-industrial complex, steals, exploits, and commercializes black culture but then doesn't allow black people to express their own culture because it frightens them to come in contact with blackness that has not been mediated by said complex. This was all, of course, presented by Apple and Pepsi, so I'm not sure exactly who got away with what. I was under the impression that Gil Scott-Heron's "the revolution will not be televised" meant that any genuine subversion could not be co-opted and commodified by the media powers that be, so for him to say "the revolution will be televised" seemed like not just missing the point but actively shitting on it. It's like saying "there is balm in Gilead, and for a limited time we're passing the savings on to you." Come to think of it, that spot probably ran on channel 38 in the late '80s. |

To be fair nothing lives up to the drama when icon/king/slay Drachinifel probably (almost certainly) figured out why the HMS Hood exploded and then got copied by a bunch of imitators like Oceanliner Designs who presented his argument as their own. Not that I don’t cherish the background noise of some British dude born about a hundred and twenty years too late droning on about the service history of the Leon Gambetta class of light cruisers who blockaded the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1917. |

At this point the Super Bowl is pretty much the only American holiday that is universally celebrated. Although I'm not sure if Tren de Aragua. American Hamas, and the male Chinese nationals of fighting age that were welcomed in by Joe Biden and Company are paying attention. I think we can all agree that Drake sucks though. |

You might enjoy Public Service Broadcasting https://youtu.be/5JwoMf2f9FQ?si=aX8sskQ1DTjhrkjH Not just that, but they have songs about the Supermarine Spitfire, White Star Line, Moon Landing, Lockheed Electra. It’s funny in a way. CH might like it too. It’s funny, quaint, historic and nostalgic. |

Ah, the "You don't get it, [already wildly famous and revered black guy] is actually. a. genius...." number. Which if I'm not mistaken has as a distant ancestor the very casual racism of lowered expectations. |

What happened to NFL promoting "Choose Love " as new logo, yet all I got out of the halftime show was how much hate KL has for Drake. I guess Lamar didnt get the memo or did the Crib Walker |

the only people i see talking about this on social media is white women in their 30s. and theyre scolding all the white men who apparently hated it because racism. the only posts ive seen about not liking it are from people who just didnt enjoy it. the outcry of racism surely seems forced and manufactured. |

It was simultaneously worse than what a lot of people think it was and better than what a lot of people think it was. It was mostly average outside of just constantly attacking Drake. If the mic had worked better in the first half then maybe it would have been overall good. |

I think it’s a healthy sign that these two settled their issues with competing poems rather than violence. |

Let's all play along with the assumption that KL had all this deeper meaning and symbolism planned.....ok, fine. I get it. I want no part of it while I'm drinking beer and trying to enjoy the escapism and entertainment of (arguably) the US's premier sporting event of the year. |
