Butch Jones is probably the #1 choice, but they'll have to pay $2+ million to get him.

Oh, and save the Beckman 2.0 stuff. Hazell was on my list too.

K so 2/3 of your list didn't want the Purdue job. If Hazzell doesn't want it, then is it fair to start talking Beckman 2.0?

So after seeing the next Wisconsin coach thread I have to ask...who won this thread? Did Boiler Rick go down in a college thread or has he stolen victory from the jaws of defeat?

It was his worst loss in a college thread in his board history.

I'm pretty sure when your opponent can't even comprehend your posts you win.

Hey guys, why don't you say again that I said that it was a "done deal"!

But was your comprehensiveness comprehensible? I think the verdict may still be out on this one.

So that means I won. Because you cant point out one thing I said that wasnt true. I never said that you said it was a done deal. I said you believed it to be a done deal, which is true. This shouldn't be hard to comprehend.

I thought it would Doeren but I didn't think it was a done deal given the fact that Jones was at the time of my post the #1 choice. I expected that to fall through, and Doeren would be the coach. Doesn't that make sense?

I did not, at any time, say I believed it was a done deal. The closest I came was to saying that I think an agreement was set for about 3 weeks, but the Jones stuff erased that. Please note, that I said that in the very same post, so CLEARLY I did not think it was a done deal, since you know, they wanted a different coach instead. I still believe that it was set for about 3 weeks, but it was not a "done deal" and Doeren was told that he'd have to wait. He didn't want to.

Ironically, if he had, he probably would have ditched Purdue for Wisconsin if Wisconsin was ready for him.

To tie it up. Done deal. It would have been bad if he hadn't accepted.

Now for the twist. Hazell turned down an offer from Colorado. That means that Colorado seems to think Jones was all a leverage play with Cincinnati though obviously Jones may still end up at Colorado.

Pretty excited.

Must be a bad day in Boilerland. They had to settle for a lowly MAC coach. That must mean they were way down the list of candidates to have stoop to such levels.

You got it all wrong. We just got the coach of the year from the fourth best conference in the country!

The entire purpose of the MAC is to prepare coaches for the next level.

As a side note, this really puts more pressure on Illinois to fire Beckman after next year, if the reports are true that the AD is getting a lot of internal pressure to hire an African American candidate in either football or basketball, and that he didn't before. Illinois now becomes the only Big Ten school(not counting Nebraska) to have not had and African American head coach in football or basketball.

Unless Illinois turns it around, I'd expect Illinois goes hard after Willie Taggart, who is young but I think he's destined to be a star.

  This makes me think of a business I was a partner in a few years ago. A friend I grew up with and I started it and my friend brought in a bunch of guys he had worked with in the past- his crew. One of these guys was a former punter at SIU who went by the name "Coach" because he coached kickers. One of his students was this kid Jared Armstrong who punted at Purdue. Another one was this little kid who kicked for Bowling Green. That fucker loved to gamble, so my first idea was to do some point-shaving but I never got around to proposing it to the guy. Anyway, instead of working Coach was always fucking around with these kickers. It was a very strange dynamic. Also, Coach was very jealous of any woman our other partner spoke to. I didn't give it a whole lot of thought until some business associates from Cleveland took me out to dinner and one of the guys asked me if Coach liked girls yet. One time I took Coach with me on a sit and the wife was cute as hell. The whole time I'm pitching the construction project I'm thinking about boning her. When we get outside, the first thing Coach says to me is, "Did you see the body on that guy? I wonder what sports he plays." By the time the business busted out, every guy we had working there was convinced this guy was gay. Punting had become a euphemism for gay sex in our parlance.

 I like JORR stories better when they aren't a subtle way to call me gay.

 I have been open here about my reservations about Wilson. I like some things I see, but I am far from sold on him.

I just find it hard to believe that choice #3 really gets you excited as a Boiler fan.

Obviously, I was more excited about Jones. I think he's comparable to Doeren. Both did really good things in short times at a MAC school. Doeren did better, but had a much better head start because Jerry Kill really built up the program.

He's a clear upgrade from Hope, was on my original list of 3, and has high praise from many sources.

It's very hard to predict what the actual results are, but I think Purdue has given themselves about as good of a chance as they could.

You'd hope that Illinois is a better job than USF.

spanky trap set!
