All 4 of the 2nd round series were 2-1, and the teams that were up 2-1 are now all up 3-1,except the Spurs.

If the Spurs go on to win the series, as well as the Pacers/Heat/Grizzlies, then best of 3 would've resulted in the same outcome as best of 7.

If Spurs win tonight, they'll likely go on to win the series plus they would also have won under a best of 5 system.

First round, 7 of the 8 series would have had the same series winner if they had been best of 3 instead of best of 7, only the Clippers-Grizzlies series would've had a different outcome.

All 8 of 8 would've had the same ultimate series winner had they been best of 5 instead of best of 7.

Given the epidemic of injuries to franchise players in the NBA these days, maybe reducing the 1st and 2nd rounds of the playoffs to best of 5 and sticking with best of 7 for Conference Finals and the NBA finals would be worth looking into to preserve and extend the playing careers of the NBA's top players.

1st round, play 3 games add up scores, most points wins. Same thing 2nd round, but 5 games. Best of 7 for the rest. Not like playoffs will ever get shorter. Surprised MLB doesn't go back to a 9 game World Series for "tradition."

The NBA has become focused around star players playing at level of athleticism that wasn't there in decades past.; which is awesome IF these superstar athletes can stay healthy and stay on the court. Problem is they are not. As a result, we aren't getting the best possible basketball the NBA could offer.

Steph Curry played 58 minutes in game 1, probably averaging 44+ mins a game. And he's hobbled by an ankle. D Wade, Westbrook, the Bulls entire team...Lee for GS...all playing injured or not playing at all due to injury.

Regular season you can rest guys and the games don't mean the same thing as playoff games. Playoffs all these guys go all out, every night. Cutting back a few games in the initial rounds might result in better games throughout the playoffs.

I remember back in the early 80s the first round was best of 3. It was pretty exciting as there was no room for error in any of the games.

It was Best of 5 when Michael Jordan hit the first of 2 buzzer beaters to end the Cavaliers' season back in 1989. The late, great Jim Durham provided that call and I still hear that from time to time.

Not a chance that any of this will ever happen. The owners aren't going to give up these games and the extra TV money they bring.

Agreed...and the NBA's TV contracts will soon be up for renewal.
