Obviously, I don't know you personally, but your stories don't seem to indicate an "I".

I have to force myself out. It doesn't come naturally.

The message board is a great spot for "I"s.

Touche'. I was thinking the same thing myself. Most people on here would probably be "I"'s.

I'm an INTP, to no one's surprise. Sometimes I end up with INFJ, which is weird, but cool, since it's the rarest one!

Great thread. I don't have to take the test - I'm a long-time INTJ. I'm surprised to see so many introverts here - but then again not, as I suppose the nature of message boards naturally attracts them. But introverts are a small minority in general, correct? At least, they sure are in the circles I run in.

Would it be out of line to turn this into an extrovert-bashing thread? Because that would be fun. Their shocking and relentless lack of self-awareness would be one place to start.

One need only look in the drinky thread to determine that most people here are introverts. I mean, we get drunk and talk to other people on a message board (myself included) .

I am sort of "in between" introvert and extrovert, but the strong extroverts I work with can be extremely irritating. They have a constant need for approval but don't have the awareness to understand how to get the approval. It is sort of like a dog chasing its own tail.

My wife is certified to administer the test and she runs "debriefings" at her workplace. The goal is to give people better understanding of where the other guy is coming from. One profile isn't "better" than another. The test certainly isn't supposed to be used for hiring. But that doesn't stop some morons. For example, the "IT"s in IT think Fs are hysterical goofs. In finance and accounting most of them happen to be "TJ"s. They should understand that certain profiles don't make one better suited for a job, but your profile may make a job better suited for you.

Of course, there ar all kinds of other things that going into making someone's personality. When my wife first became certified she looked at everyone through the prism of the MBTI. It was the old "if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" thing. She's one of these people who are always trying to improve. Me, I think I'm good enough. She's an "I" so she joined Toastmasters International to help her with public speaking. Anyway, I hope she doesn't improve too much, she's already way too good for me.

It goes back to the things that make us who we are. I'm interested in the traits of the different generations and how people from the different generations interact. I remember having this discussion and Favre Fan saying I was stereotyping. But it's really just a matter of people from a generation sharing the same inputs. There is going to be commonality. Like MBTI profiles, one isn't "better" than another. They're just different. For example, me being around so many hard-shelled Gen-Xers all the time with the never-ending sarcasm and irony, it's nice to meet Millennials like Favre Fan or my business partner, Joe who have a sincerity you don't often find in guys my age.

I agree, JORR.

I think it's a double-edged sword. On one hand, taking it in the context of work does seem to make people more aware of how others think and not just saying "Oh, I hate that guy - he worries about so much little bullshit." Instead, it makes people realize that everyone thinks differently, even if they don't get into the minutiae of who is an "S" or a "J". It was actually an extremely valuable team-building exercise when my group took it together. And I agree, there are no profiles that are better than another.

However, as you say, it sometimes causes people to use it all the time. For example, there is a VP who I work with who I tend to talk with and bounce things off. One of her peers is a menace to everyone. He is a somewhat intelligent guy but just a complete jagoff who terrorizes everyone that works for him. There are a litany of things he does that are fucking infuriating. Well, the VP I talk to also used to facilitate Myers-Briggs assessments. Every time we start bitching about him, she goes to the MB assessment and starts trying to categorize him and see where he's coming from. I told her a couple weeks ago, "Let's not overthink think this... what happened to the days when someone was just an asshole and their behavior was unacceptable?" She couldn't help but agree.

So I think it is generally a good thing if it is not overused.

INTJ. All slight, moderate for "N."

My brother is a devotee of some personality decoder that uses the assignations "persuader" analyzer," and a couple of other -er's. I used to mimic him by saying stuff like, "well he's obviously a carbuerator-alternator right?" Is anyone familiar with this system?

If you go to this page: http://www.personalitypage.com/INTP.html

it gives a little "blurb" with an adjective to describe the personality. I don't know if it's something scientific or just something they made up. For example, the INTP is the "thinker."

ENTJ but I'd hardly call myself an extrovert. It's more like I can play the role of an extrovert.

Anyway, these questions are more about how you view yourself rather than how you actually act. It would be better to have others who know you answer the questions for you. The test result really only speaks to your idealized self rather than your actual self.

I was just talking about this with my wife yesterday. Certain countries tend toward certain profiles. The United States is an "E" dominant country. Many of us who profile as "I"s will force ourselves to play the role of an "E" simply because of the prevailing culture.

Extravert(1%) iNtuitive(12%) Thinking(38%) Judging(44%)
You have marginal or no preference of Extraversion over Introversion (1%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (12%)
You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (38%)
You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (44%)

What is interesting is if I put my work hat on I would answer the questions one way, yet differently if I had to put my personal life hat on. This was a lame combination of the two, but probably as accurate as any.

This describes me. I guess that's why I was only an extrovert by 1%.
