Bernstien considers JR a negotiating savant. I agree with him. However, it is strange that JR wouldn't look at Boras as a worthy opponent and revel in their negotiating battles.
Oh there is no doubt. Reinsdorf might be a lot of things, but he's clearly a shrewd businessman. The salary cap and revenue sharing in MLB wouldn't look like it does today without Reinsdorf pulling strings with his fishing Bud from Milwaukee.
To elaborate, Boras' philosophy is to draw negotiations out as long as possible and get the maximum dollar value for his free agent clients. It's not that Jerry wouldn't see him as a worthy adversary. Moreso the reasons the Sox don't engage agents like Bora$ is the same reason Tampa wouldn't bid on those types of clients. Draftees are a different thing. Sox, should they get the 2 or 3 pick, the solution they trend toward is taking a college senior with little leverage, or a guy who is ready to sign. They'll probably get a top 10 talent, just not maybe the best talent available.
