managing the cubs is a different beast.
Yes, the former shitty clubhouse and tiny locker room was probably never something that helped. The interview closet they had. The losing history, the fans right on top of you, the vast media coverage....basically you dont need to try and garner coverage or attention as Maddon has done in TB.
At the same time, all the stuff he did in TB, nobody cared what he did. Nobody broke down every single he word he said, he never had to face mothers against dirty old men, if he ever made a comment like 'She is cute" or rumors that Joe is banging the hot waitress at D&D's, etc. or just drinking until 4 AM at Bernies. Many managers, coaches and players have lived that life.
Tons of issues around the Cub circus that Joe might not have ever dealt with....and as the Ricketts toss millions more into the organization, the park and the network...the issues aren't going to go away.
It's called BEING CUBBED. You don't know what it is, you don't see it coming but next thing you know too many things go bad and you can't get the CUBBED back in the bottle...and you are the last guy to see it!
Nobody wants to see Joe get this done more than I, but there is no way to simulate and ignore what's coming and what has happened to so many before him.
