Jerrys a regular schmo, who understands the law and tax code as well as anyone, but throws a terrible party and gets his jollies by cutting deals that he wins on. pretty simple.

Good article. Not enough attention paid to what a pr disaster the stadium deal was. Go back in time there were a lot of people who thought the Sox were leaving right up to the day of the vote in Springfield.

Interesting read. While many of the statements he makes about JR are true, he still seems chapped that he didn't get his interview.

JR is an interesting study. His legacy is what it is...he won championships and also made a ton of mistakes. At the same time, he never did himself any favors with the media and I think that's a mistake on his part...then again, maybe he doesn't care.

So, the guy wants credit for a media request for asking him in the hallway....he claims he called 'The Office"....and then he doesnt say what happened, he just says it never happened.

If you called the White Sox media relations and said "I am writing a book on being a Sox fan, I ran into Jerry Reinsdorf and asked for an interview, he told me to call next week, so I am calling about that interview"

I am 100% sure someone from the Sox would call you back. They might want more information on the book, what the angle is, if he has ever written anything, etc....they would then talk to Jerry and see if he was interested. Assuming he wasnt trying to smear his name, they would most likely give him a time to meet...maybe even a time to meet before the formal interview.

This guy is a fucking joke and giving him credit for even requesting anyones time, is foolish. Sounds to me he was looking for angle....because if he really was writing a book, sure doesnt sound like he tried very hard to get his interview.

Thought the "article" was more like a post one would read here, with poor information.

The guy is trying to evaluate a historical timeline and didnt mention Harry and Jimmy, but yet spends a ton of time on Gleason????

I don't know anything about the guy who wrote the article. Who knows if that encounter went down the way he said it did or if it even happened at all. But I think we can agree, Jerry is who he is.

He reminds me of a lot of the guys I grew up with who turned out to be successful. I don't think it's coincidence that the majority of them are Jewish. And there's a reason there are so many rich, wealthy, famous Jewish guys who grew up in post-WWII Brooklyn. Scrapper City, man. It's a very particular philosophy and way to approach life. It's like every single human interaction has a winner and a loser and those guys are going to make damn sure they're the winners. Growing up in Skokie in the 70s, I've got some of that attitude myself. I couldn't really help but pick it up.

When you're dealing directly with a large customer base, it's probably not a great way to go about things. But hell, Jerry certainly doesn't need business advice from you or me. I just don't want to hear him or his minions whining about how unfair everything is when they're constantly walking around with that "Us vs. the World" mentality.

It's not a stretch for me to believe Jerry was a sarcastic prick to the guy. I've seen him act like that myself. I'm no fan of Tommy Boy. You sit very close to him at Wrigley, right? Have you ever seen him be anything less than gracious with a fan?

I think that's a very accurate description of JR.

I also agree with BigFan that the article itself is strange and the author comes off as an entitled brat who didn't get his way.

My biggest problem is that he has 2 different professional sports franchises with the same damn dysfunctional management culture. There's no use of humility or taking the high road with JR. He reacts and wages war to even the slightest of opposition like a teenage girl. He also insists of doing it publicly. He makes his own mess and the cries he's treated unfairly.

All said and done, in his mind he probably doesn't care and figures he's "won". In some ways he has, but he could be so much bigger and better....wasted potential. A little humility, patience, and tolerance would have gone a long way.
