Liked Rowand a lot. No doubt a great dude.

Thome will look good at DH and occasional 1B. Now, if Frank gets healthy and they bring him and Paulie back. Add Juan Pierre in the CF hitting behind Pods. Can't wait to see!

I love it that the Sox are a player in the Hot Stove league.

Love the trade. All you Rowand lovers on the radio, get a f'n grip. He played some great defense at times, but cost the Sox two critical games at the end of the season by misplaying balls. Not to mention his piss poor performance at the plate this year. This is a great trade and Kenny Williams is the best GM this town has ever seen. He will do whatever it takes to attempt to win and keep winning.

Ofcourse this is a great trade. Rowand gets a pass in this town cuz he's a good interview.

The dude batted 270 with 14 hrs and 70 rbi's. Wow

Even if Thome spends time on the DL its still a good trade for what the PHillies are eating in salary.

Not to mention, I really like this Brian Anderson kid. He needs to play sometime.

I suppose I'm gonna get flamed for this since everyone else loves the trade, but I hate this trade. Jim Thome is broken down and washed up. Coincidence considering that MLB started steroid testing this year?? He is 35 years old, creaky, and overweight. I know Rowand wasn't the best, but now what do we do in center? The unproven Brian Anderson? Puss armed and afraid of the wall Scott Podsednik? Obviously Aaron's numbers weren't impressive, but his defense and locker room demeanor will be greatly missed. It seems to me that Kenny made this move just to prove that he doesn't plan on standing pat this year. I don't like this move!

Give Kenny the benefit of the doubt. I remember last year people were saying, "They traded Carlos Lee for who?"

A World Champion GM gets my respect and trust boys. By the way Aaron Rowan is not the Hall of Famer some are making him sound like.

I tend to agree Al. I also have steroid questions concerning Thome. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, since it was an elbow injury. I guess time will tell. I just hope they didn't let a beloved clubhouse guy go for damaged goods. I would have at least held off until spring training, to see how Thome rebounds. When it comes to steroids, the dropoff is fast and huge. Also Posednick was a mediocre left fielder at best. Knowing he will be roaming center field doesn't exactly instill me with confidence. Something in my gut tells me we'll be bemoaning this trade. Like Nas wrote earlier, hope I'm wrong.

Was he on steroids?

You can ask the same thing about Rowand, just compare the #s. Farmer was on the radio today and said he's known Thome. He says he's at 100%. The elbow is all good as it was fixed this past year, and the reports talking bad about his back are exaggerated. Not to mention there's a chance he'll be DHing. I know Philly had a nice hitter's park, but he's going to love those summer nights at the Cell.

Brian Anderson and Aaron Rowand are basically the same player, with Anderson having more upside. It's like we did the Podsednik trade and didn't give up Lee (which also freed up money), as I am confident that Thome will put up a .280 average with about 35 HRs. Not to mention no SP were given up, contradicting Levine's report yesterday that it'd be Rowand and Contreras or McCarthy given up. This pitching staff with a big offensive upgrade, watch out!

I LOVE IT!

Podsednik will stay in left, with Anderson taking over CF (unless there's another trade involving Marte/Pierre)

I thought we were built around " pitching, defense and speed"
I thought Hawk said "Aaron is the best defensive centerfielder in baseball"
Didn't Kenny say "we tried winning with power it didn't work"

and this is wnat we get

Thome ..old...slow...questionable if he can/will play the field... "ROIDS" the rumors were all over last year...and he played only 59 games....

Something happened between Ozzie/Kenny and Aaron...why just after winning did Ozzie say we need more speed (spped positions tend to be cf 2b and ss).... and I want Iguchi to bat 6th (Rowands spot)...every rumored trade since then was Rowand for this guy or that guy ...

There is more to this story then meets the eye... Rownad said or did something to P.O. management...

I just hope the Bears still let him be an honary captain against GB next week....it will be the fans chance to show Aaron some love....

Guys we are not loosing speed. Thome is going to be DH. Not center field. He is replacing Carl Everet. Keep that in mind dudes. There is more work to be done by kenny. By the way I really think Brian anderson is something. I know everyone gives the Corey Patterson example. But guys. every super star in the game was once a rookie. So rookies do pan out.

Thome's back is certainly something of a concern. He had a right elbow surgery but the elbow problems are a consequence of favoring the back. For you lefties out there, to replicate what happenned to Thome, try to hit a couple-three dozen balls in a cage on a full stomach after a big lunch. That should be enough to get the right elbow real sore. If it starts hurting in the left pec, shoulder, bicep, or forearm - your swing, much like mine, sucks!

All being said, I have a full faith in the back docs that will do evaluation for the White Sox. These guys are top notch anywhere period and if they clear him, Herm should be able to keep him healthy.

Chris Young has "30/30" potential and gold glove abillity in center. If he has a big spring training he'll replace Rowand.
