Big Franks goes to the A's...and the silence is deafening.

What a shame. I guess he has no one to blame but himself. A player with sure HOF numbers until recently has to settle for the proverbial "Incentive-Laden contract."

I can't think of another star from a major market team whose fortunes dropped this quickly. I wonder if he will ever look back and wonder where it all went wrong...

I know that if I have the chance to be at the game, I will stand and applaud Frank Thomas in his first at bat with the A's. After that, though, he's on another team, and one that has had the Sox' number forever at that.

He was my favorite player....and it sucks that he's gone.
I think he knows where it all went wrong.......his lack of steroid use.

and in hindsight, I can't blame him now for being disruptive and pissy later in his tenure with the Sox.

Agreed. I was really disappointed at the boos that greeted Mags last year.So what if he and Ozzie got into a pissing match earlier? He should have been applauded for his time with the Sox. I hope Frank keeps his yap shut when talking to the press about his release from the Sox and wish him well against all the other teams.

Frank is the White Sox of my lifetime. I was fortunate enough to be by Comiskey for his #400. Anyone here who's seen #1 live?

i'm pretty sure I saw one of his first 7 in 1990 at Milwaukee, but I can't find any information on game by game home runs on the net....

For all you Frankheads. A's in town on May 22, 23, and 24. Spring training games vs A's on March 7 and 13 (if you are out golfing in the desert.)

First homer came vs Twins on 8/28/1990. Retrosheet - they have every f'g boxscore going way back.

Greatest player to ever don a Sox uniform. For a seven year stretch, he was mentioned in the company of Ruth, Teddy Ballame, and Gehrig. Plus, while his peers were all jamming needles in their asses, Big Frank did it with brute strength, and impeccable hand-eye coordination. As a life long Sox fan, thank you Frank. See you in Cooperstown around 2011 or 2012.

Are you joking? Frank SHOULD be a first ballot HOF'er. He probably won't get in the first time, but I am certain he is already a lock.

Hitting stats yes, but I still beleive the writers are too full of themselves to easily elect a DH

That was my point Al. The man dominated the sport for 8 years but as of last year they were comparing his numbers to Jeff Bagwell and saying he was a borderline HOFer. If I was voting he would get inducted the same day he retired but the same writers that he treated like shit has to vote.

I understand both of your points, but I don't think that his induction would even be in question. Murph had John Dejuan (sp?) on yesterday and the statistics he quoted back were ridiculous. He also mentioned some statistical equation Bill James put together when considering a players HOF credentials and Frank scored waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay past what was needed to gain entry into the hall in the past. I wish I could be more specific, but anyone that heard the interview will know what I am talking about.

He definately fits the mold. He dominated his sport for the 90's and should have been the best hitter of the 90's if not for Griffy Jr. The HOF is such an elite club, until the new era write's out number the purists, a DH will struggle getting into the hall of fame.

Frank is a sure first ballot hall of famer. The only 500 HR guy not in is Kingman. Frank should make it to 500 in acoupleof years. Besides, we all saw how many HR's Frank can hit if he's trying. He always knew he could hit more Dingers but he always thought of himself as a complete hitter. He would have rather had 35 HR's but hit .335 than hit 55 HR's and hit 280. I compare Frank to Pujols. Pujols's numbers are better but not much at a comparible age. Pitching was better in the 90's compared to this watered down Yankees dominated era. Frank faced descent pitching nightly and he was the toughest out for a decade!

He is a prick but I'm glad I saw him play.

Pre cursor to my rant on Frank, he was my favorite player for a long time and I respected him no matter what was written or said. However....

I was going to agree with a few of you about giving Frank a standing O, but after reading today’s papers and hearing clips of the intro press conference in Oakland, he really pissed me off. I really don’t care what an individual’s motivation is while they are playing, but don’t dare come out and say they should have consulted you on their future roster moves. He has been making a fucking fortune the last two years while hardly playing.

You want to have sour grapes, play well enough to give your argument some backbone you whiny, overpaid, ungrateful, disrespectful and disingenuous son of a bitch. Now shut the f uck up and stay in Oakland.

How can you let one change the opinion that you held for 10 years? I agree with him when he says they should have called him to let him know his services aren’t needed. Why can't the owner call the greatest player in the teams history? Why does he get a voice mail? Why was it so hard to call Rowand but not Frank? He is also right about them picking up Thome's contract. I made the same comment the same day they traded for Thome. It's like MJ being told to go DOPE himself and then showing Dennis Hopson some respect. He was the face of their organization for over a decade and maybe the best player in baseball for 5 years. He deserved RESPECT

I'm just angry about his unreal attitude. I still think he is the best pure hitter I have seen in my short 23 years, but I no longer have an need to give the prick a standing O until he takes back the bs he said about not throwing out the first pitch had he known he was leaving. And no, you dont need a phone call, you were payed tens of millions of dollars for a thank you. If you cant read the writing on the wall he is even dumber than I thought.

Two time league MVP, career .307 hitter, 448 HRs makes him a likely HOFer, but not first ballot. Not helped by only two postseasons (9 games) and 960 games as a DH.
