Bases loaded. No outs.

No runs.

Fire LaRussa.

If Kopech and Crochet can't be used like normal relievers they should should be in the rotation.

Sure it's early in there is a lot of season left and all that, but this is a particularly brutal road trip. They should really be no worse than 5-2. And you could make a strong case for them being 6-1, yet here we are.

They seem to be on the team to be developed rather than be contributors. They need to be doing everything they can to win, not sacrificing to develop players. If they need more seasoning they should be at the alternate site and then AAA.

This team just is not likable right now. Stupid baseball from the managerial decisions, to roster construction, to defensive gaffes, to awful base running and finally the length of games. Everyone one has been a slog. Already a few at or over 4 hours.

I still think Kopech's best role is as a 2 inning reliever once per series. Keep him around 100 innings so he's ready to be a starter next year, and don't let Tony have him warm up 15 times a week.

Crochet should be targeted against the other team's 3-7 hitters the fourth time through the lineup in close games. The true fireman role.

How introspective. He gave up three hits, and they still had the lead. After the game was tied Foster walked the next guy. He still wasn't pulled until 4 runs after that.

It would be nice if Crochet could play that role more than once every five days. They're treating these guys like quasi-starters and that's increasing the load on other members of the bullpen and possibly influencing LaRussa's decisions as to how long he leaves his starters in the game.

Soft bigotry of low expectations.

You hire the senior citizen to not make the mistake which leads to the explanation. What’s the point of his experience if he’ll ‘my bad’ his way out of early fuck-ups?

Yeah, he should be able to do that every other day, maybe 4 days out of 7, without hitting up against his innings limits.

If they are going to treat them as starters, then they need to piggyback them with Cease and Rodon so that they can get 7 innings most of the time they start.

No to up and throwing 4 days a week, yes to piggybacking. There's Keuchel also who can be piggybacked. He's a 5 and fly. Probably moreso than Rodon, even though he's a ticking time bomb. All this wouldn't be that big of a problem if we could run the bases and catch and throw better than a HS freshman team. I don't know how many unearned there's been, but I'll bet it's close to 10. A couple pass balls, a catcher's interference, an unconscionable pick off, and various Madrigalisms. Hell, we're probably 1-6 if not for 2 grand slams.
