The reason the team will not be like the Cubs of '04 is because the Cubs didn't win the Series in '03. In other words, if any sort of bickering occurs between fans and and ballclub it will be because of unrealistic expectations (when you look solely at the odds of winning a World Series back-to-back).

3 games, 3 DEAD crowds. Granted, there hasn't been a whole lot to cheer about yet, but these folks were quiet.

I go to a LOT of Sox games (all but 2 last year), and more often than not a crowd of 18K hardcore fans are markedly louder than 38K "fans." And, I'd wager this is how it's going to be all year. There are going to be more people who think it's cool to go to a Sox game than people who WANT to go to a Sox game. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but I don't expect an "air of electric" (Billy Williams) very often.

There was a lot of cheering going on in the 10th inning (or was it the 11th?) when a fight that was brewing in CF bleachers finally broke out big. It took a dozen security guys to take down 4 guys. Those are the little extras you get at a Sox game...

If you look at Ticketmaster on the Sox website, the majority of the games only have tickets remaining for the 12th row and up in the upper deck. As much as some people bitched I loved going to the games in years past, being able to walk up and buy a great seat. I'm not complaining that much because from out here, I'd have to battle the Dan Ryan so my Sox games were going to be cut drastically anyway.

You're right. I was there Tuesday and made noise like always, but let's be honest....There wasn't much to cheer about Tuesday. Thome's bomb was impressive though.

i wouldn't say the crowd was dead yesterday, but it did thin out pretty quickly from the 8th inning on.
unfortunately, i missed the fight....
