Time to show my absolute ignorance...You can tell your chickens to stop laying eggs?

chickens lay best when there is 12-14 hours of daylight. they slow down or stop all together if I don't have a light on from 5am to 8am and 4:30-9pm in the winter.

Well we have had winters for at least 66 million years, or whenever the comet hit the earth. Why did it take until this one for the egg market to react?

There's a lot to unpack here.

This winter has a bird flu epidemic.

I didn't see any eggs when I was last at Mariano's so I didn't even bother to check. I think my days of making breakfast strata with a dozen eggs and some old bread are over forever.

Got some bad news about what egg prices under Trump may be like.

Up to $7.99.

Also notable is that the price of a 12-pack is up to $10.99, up from $7.99 this summer. What's the excuse there? Mountain Dew Flu?

Seems to me that there is a great opportunity for an enterprising person to make a lot of money right by breeding a new type of chicken that is immune to bird flu viruses.

they're trying to keep that trend going from back when we should've just taken public transportation when gas prices were hitting $6 a gallon.

what's the solution for doritos though? they're harder to raise.

Post-menopausal lady? Stay out of the chicken coop or you'll get felt up.

May not be a lady. Some of them can pass.

I had the local news on last night to check out the big storm that is hitting central Wisconsin. The lead story was the village of Kronenwetter having a meeting about allowing chickens in residential neighbors.

On a separate note, I was in a bar last week and the bartender asked her husband to go home and feed her chickens. He said he had already done it that morning.

It is also common to have people selling both firewood or eggs at the end of their driveways. Just drop money in the box and take some.

I ain’t in the mecca anymore….

They'll still die from the bird flu and now you've got piles of chicken shit all over and your (DEMO)rat population is going to explode. It's a winning plan.

My cousin's neighbors had chickens that would crow every morning and annoy everyone. This was in Schaumburg in the '90s. Maybe it wasn't a cultural mecca until the 2000s.

There were a few lingering rural areas and legacy farms in the early 90’s. There was still that large Polk Brock farm across from Conant when I went there through 1992. Some rural areas out west by Streamwood too.

But most of Schaumburg finished developing by 1990. It had a spurt in the 60’s and then again in the 80’s.

From the same group that rightfully complained about school closings after the first few weeks comes "Just grow your own eggs at home".
