Which one is it? You've gone from being certain that he is a placeholder to he might be a placeholder to he's a!placeholder if they draft a QB. Which makes little sense.

It's impossible to know who will be available.

As I said, I'll be wrong if they don't draft a QB in round 1 or 2. How is that not enough for you?

Because in the next breath you will be definitively arguing that they are going to take a QB in the first couple of rounds.

As you were previously.

You really seem to have a difficult time accepting that he will be anyone's starting QB. Even when the Jets just told you that he is their starting QB

You're already wrong and now are attempting to move the goalposts.

Again you're already wrong. They just told you that he is their starter and they expect him to be one of the better QBs in the league. Those words are rarely reserved for "placeholders"

Oh yeah if he is "lucky" he will get a Gardiner Minshew type deal.

Quote:
Minshew, 28, signed a two-year, $25 million free agent contract last offseason with $15 million guaranteed. He has a cap hit of $14 million in 2025, and $3.16 million of guaranteed money left on his deal. The Raiders could save $9.3 million by making him a post-June 1 cut.

His guaranteed money alone is more than Minshew's total.

Salaries go up across the board. It is a Minshew like deal.

Fields is cheap for a true starting QB. $6 million ahead of Daniel Jones. $5 million less than Geno Smith.

Other than the $15 million dollar difference in the amount of the contracts, how did you like the contract?
No it isn't. Which is why I know as soon as the draft is over you will be spinning the narrative in an effort to be "correct" yet again

Don't sell yourself short. Check who the free agent QB's will be in 2026.

Because again, a two year deal, with most of the guaranteed cash upfront, is not a team tying their future to a QB.

Don’t tell him that! Now he will wait for that and LTG keeps this up!

The goalposts sure are a "moving" aren't they? "We" are now looking towards 2026 after repeatedly proclaiming that Justin Fields is "Just A Backup" even though there were 2 teams at least that wanted him to be a starter.

being the starting QB for the jets is literally one step above being a backup qb. you've "won" for now just barely and you are trying to rub it in like he's got a 5 year deal to be Sean McVay's qb.

I don't get caught up in "franchise bashing" as the basis for my argument. There is absolutely nothing which cements the argument that Justin Fields will be terrible simply because he plays for the Jets. That's "Score esque" based lazy analysis.

Go look at where he is slotted. Way behind anyone decent. Just ahead of Daniel Jones.

No spin is needed. Let's see if he is a placeholder or not. We will find out soon.

More spin
There is absolutely nothing about the value or structure of his contract which suggests that he is being paid like Gardiner Minshew.

And I don't have to "see" as I already know that he isn't. And so do you or you'd have taken the action already.

He's paid more than Minshew because contracts have increased in value.

:lol lol. Yeah Justin Fields contract is significantly greater when compared to Gardiner Minshew. Which according to you was not supposed to occur. In fact didn't you say that he'd only receive a Gardiner Minshew type contract if he were "lucky"?

You've been incorrect at every turn

It's a 2 year cheap deal. It's the same contract. Good for Fields for getting it though. We will see if he is a placeholder or not soon enough.

It's not the same contract..If Fields is cut after this season he will receive more in Guaranteed money than Minshew's deal would have paid over the lifetime of the contract.

As stated previously. The second your "placeholder" assertion is debunked you're going to immediately pivot to something else as opposed to admitting that you got it wrong. Book it!

Yes, and Darnold and Smith are getting big raises because all salaries have gone up for quarterbacks.

I've been clear. No change. Draft a QB in 1st or second round. He's a placeholder and I'm right. If they don't then I was wrong and he seems to be a true starter.

But you claimed that he'd be "lucky" to get a Minshew contract. His contract clearly exceeds that.

You're only correct if they A. Draft someone in the Firsr Kr 2nd round. And B. This person beats him out for the spot down the line.

But seeing as you will be proven wrong on draft day both points are moot.

Sure. It's settled then. Though I would add that if he gets cut or traded after a year I was right then if you are adding extra stuff.

Nah it's just common sense. He cannot be a "placeholder" if the guy whom they draft doesn’t actually ever replace him.

If he starts the entire year and then they decide to move on then it would be because they miscalculated on him as a player and seek to upgrade the position.

That's hardly a "placeholder" situation.

It could be because they both suck.

But it's funny to think "they miscalculated on him as a player and seek to upgrade the position." is a win for the Fields cult.

What? Fields would literally be replaced before his contract expired in that situation. "Miscalculated" means he didn't perform as expected and is not a long term starter level QB. The very definition of a placeholder.

"placeholder" for whom then? Which QB is he holding a "place" for?

It's not. However it still wouldn't mean that he was signed to be a "placeholder" either.

If you cannot ID another QB on the Jets roster whom he happened to be "holding a place for" then it is obvious that he wasn't signed to be a "placeholder".
